Xenons are so 1980'ies now... LED lights are the new Xenons. And the latest and greatest is Laser lights!!! The i8 will be the first car with laser headlights.
LED lights are technologically way better than Xenons. Provide better lighting, use less current, weigh less, last longer and looks better (subjective point of view).
Do you really want to have a car with what amounts to todays equivalent of halogen headlights? Xenons will soon be considered so yesterday... Just like halogen headlights is.
And about adaptive headlights and oncoming traffic flashing you. The same happened when Xenons came because others weren't used to the bright light and thought you had main beams on. It HAS been tested and approved according to EU standards so it works!
