The correct term is "new world" anyway. E.g. New World (the USA and other "discovered" land), Old World, (Europe and other exsisting "civilized" lands, Third World (the rest of the un-conquered "uncivilized" parts).
Don't mean to be pedantic, and I know it is not the point of your post, or this thread, but it drives me a little crazy.
