I would think 10 mph is too fast under the 8 inches or so water level obviously since the way you described it, if it were me no matter what I would idle though it at about 3 mph.

If you even look at a boat in a no wake zone the amount and size of a wake of water is huge at 10 vs the no wake zone speed of 5. Not to mention the wake produced by others coming in the opposite direction.

After hearing these stories I will either avoid deeper water all together, or drive at less speed than idle to navigate through water. Thanks for the post anyway and sorry to hear your loss this may help others.
