And we could all then tell how the stock F8X compares.

From the testimonials of some new owners the F8X sounds exotic and even better than expected.

I own both a 2011 E90 M3 and a 2015 F80 M3. egad, the F80 M3 sounds like crap. It becomes less offensive once you are actually accelerating on the throttle and fairly guttural 4000rpm + but it's not a good sounding car. It sounds like a diesel at idle as well.

The E90 M3 is far and above the better sounding car. But, it's waaaaay slower. Like noticeably even in day to day driving.
Thank you kitw for the sincere reply. I do not even drive my cars so fast, and the e90 is simply great for that awesome cruising sound. I did not imagine it would be a win for the turbo six in the F80, but it seems like a fair comparison to bring closure to the discussion on sound.

So the F80 is that much faster, huh? It sounds like a super fun car.

I think the objective in change is to enjoy it as it is, and not to hope to keep the best of the past and the future. But rather, it is better to accept the F80 as a different car.
