You are right. I just looked up the rear axle fluid for a M3/M4 and it shows what was used in your service in Italy. I think its still Castrol SAF-XJ... but it would be nice to know for sure.

It's also interesting that BMW only uses this oil
p/n 83222365988 on the M2/M3/M4 cars. Probably bc all these cars have an electronic locking diff. But BMW specs another oil(#83229407870) for the M5/M6 cars. And yet another oil for the X5M/X6M cars(Castrol SAF-XO). WTH ?
So the short answer is your car has the correct oil. Maybe BMW has switched to another diff oil spec recently. Because I know my info on using Castrol SAF-XJ was correct before. I will update page one of this DIY/FAQ.
