Sadly, it isn't inconsistent with Apple... they sometimes don't get it right until there X.1 release.... mind you this is the first time I've seen it majorly affect something that I would think is vital for a company that regards music as a core part of its platform!
Especially when BMW is pioneering Wireless Carplay in the new 5er!!!
