Neither is safer than the other. Both are good products that work similar.
I picked BM3 since buying a used license was convenient, and two of my preferred custom tuners (F80Paul and HCP) both use this platform. I've used four of the BM3 "off the shelf" (OTS) tunes, and also have done four custom tunes, across two F8X platforms.
First flash takes a few minutes. No charger is needed. Subsequent flashes take less than a minute. I like to use my phone and a WiFi adapter for flashing and logging too. Very easy to figure out and use.
