There are 3 advantages:
(1.) Sound. You hear the engine, the intake, the exhaust, (now the turbo), the wind, semi trucks, wildlife, the ocean, and whatever else is happening around you. You haven't really been scared until you thread between two loaded dump trucks with the top down going 80mph under full throttle - you hear the rocks bounce off the pavement and whizz through the air right past your skull.
(2.) Smell. You smell oil, petrol, burning rubber, burning brakes, sage brush, pine, the ocean, and anything else that's happening around you.
(3.) Feel. The wind - when you're going fast with top down, it feels fast.
Bonus: shit you find in your car after a week of top-down driving. Mostly acorns, pine needles, etc but you also get the occasional bolt or other hardware.
