Definitely very speculative info, but it seems like a reasonable direction for Audi. Porsche has a new 3L TT V6 for the refreshed Panamera (replacing the naturally aspirated V8, there too in fact), so it would not be too surprising to see Audi go the same way. Although it isn't clear yet if this particular engine will be shared with the rest of the VAG brands.

So if this comes to pass it would make the score: BMW 3.0, Audi 3.0, Mercedes 4.0. It will indeed be interesting to watch. Of course, Mercedes has a 3.0L V6 coming online next year as well, but they plan to keep the V8 in the C class AMG for at least one more generation.
