I have bought several cars out of state, including my M3. I ordered it from a dealer in Texas and had it delivered to the Performance Center for delivery. Negotiation was the same as local, if not easier since it was mostly via e-mail, text, and phone. Your trade in is going to make your deal a little more difficult. You should probably start with the local dealer and see what they can do to get the car you want. Dealer trades, shipping, etc. all cost money though, so local deal may not be as good as Carmax and working with CA dealer directly, even factoring in tax credits for trade and you paying shipping. Also, if the local dealer is going to get the car for you, make sure they are going to use a shipping method you approve of. They will try to save money here and I have had dealers try to have it delivered by a driver, pull it on a two wheel buggy, all sorts of stuff.
