Actually OP, congratulations to you! You recognized that you over-extended yourself on the car, fixed that issue and replaced it with one of BMW's most balanced cars ever. Overextending financially on anything is bad, but overextending on a (rapidly) depreciating asset like a new car (most of them anyway) is the worst.
Enjoy the ZHP! Whenever I drive my E39 M5 or Z4M coupe, which are significantly slower than the M3, I can't get over how great these cars are, even this many year later. I consider the E39/E46 era a high water mark for BMW. If I wasn't out of garage space (the SUV already sits outside), I'd add a E39 530 5-MT in a heartbeat. I think that was the most balanced car I have owned...
