Dealer visit - mini trip report

Today was an interesting day where I had a chance to examine up close the new M4. My local dealer has an AY coupe vehicle (not available for drives) along with two recent dealer spec cars - one in BS and the other in YMB. I must say that the cars look much more impressive in person than conveyed in pictures. In particular, it was possible to see a number of the flowing lines on the hood and the hips of the car. Overall, I see I'm going to really pleased when my SO M4 arrives.

The exhaust noise coming from the car sounds fabulous in my opinion and has a nice low rumble with bass notes. It was interesting to hear the difference between the noise from a cold start to it eventually calming down as the car's temperature came up while standing outside of the vehicle. There is a noticeable difference blipping the throttle between comfort and sport modes. I did notice that there was an audible click as the flap flipped within the exhaust as the car was switched from comfort to sport mode. My impression is that it's louder and more aggressive sounding than my E46 M3 and definitely does not sound like a Prius The sound in the vehicle when blipping the throttle is nicely muted but is noticeable and a little louder than I'm used to.

I was surprised when we released the hood that the mechanism has changed from my M3 and 335is. Apparently two pulls of the hood release are required with the second pull releasing a magnetic catch whereupon the hood can be pulled up.

I must say the AY looks great on the coupe and shows the car's lines well. It's got a nice yellow-gold hue with a small hint of green. I'm still neutral on the two tone wheels on the car. Unfortunately, in contrast with the AY coupe, the BS M4 was a disappointment in my view due to it masking a lot of the car's lines. In addition, the colour is terrible given its function as a dust magnet - a thin layer of dust and pollen was very noticeable on the vehicle versus the YMB immediately beside it.

And now for the obligatory photos (and finally closing off with my SO M4 ):
