What are CA's pitching these days when picking up your car?

Time is coming close for me to pick up my new F80 (~2 weeks). I was just wondering what are the pitches coming from the finance department these days? My car will be a lease.

i agree- i would like to understand if you guys are buying them or not?? Wheel and tire package seems like a good buy.

IMO the lease protection isn't worth it. If there's anything wrong with the car at time of trade in, we could probably take the car to a carmax or another dealer and sell. MY opinion is the M cars will be desirable, so they'll take the car dented or dinged anyways.

At the very least, expect pitches for:
- gap insurance
- overall vehicle damage plan (super insistent pitch, must be their highest margin product)
- wheel and tire replacement (prices based on assumption that you never patch nail punctures, and replace the wheels instead of refinishing curb rashes)

I always pass on all of the above, but then again, I bought the F80 (leased the i3 after that).

Both the BMW dealer and 3rd parties can "buy" your end-of-lease car, but I would not assume that the residuals (already high to subsidize lease sales) leave much room for profit taking at lease return. Especially if your car shows signs of damage / heavy wear'n'tear.

I remember scrambling to figure out what if anything was worth getting while they were getting my paperwork together. The only big thing I remember is the wheel/tire insurance which seemed crazy for $1500. I haven't broken a wheel in 25 years of driving so I'll risk it that I won't break more than 2 during the 3 years that I have the car. I did have to get a new tire for $300, but still wouldn't have been worth the $1500 in insurance. The finance guy was visibly upset when I didn't take him up on any of his offers and I don't regret not getting any of them.

Does this ins then absorb not replacing stock tires when turning in a lease? I remember being dinged about tires when I turned in my e90 330i about 10 yrs ago.

I replaced tires on my S4 about 6 mo ago because they were running a bit thin so I did not get dinged this time when I went through recent inspection. Nevertheless, buying 4 new 19's (brigestone I think) still gave the wallet a hit.

IIRC, the "protection" plan doesn't cover regular wear'n'tear.

As a part of the pitch, the finance guy winked and said it "might" cover tires if they all picked up nail punctures on the eve of lease return. Draw your own conclusions...

I have the lease end protection on my 328. Because of that they are not even requiring me to do the lease end inspection. I guess it just depends on how much risk you want to take on getting dinged at lease end. It was my first lease but will most likely get it again just to avoid any hassle in the future.

I have had a few upset finance guys in my days since I never buy stuff in the finance office. My last finance guy was great. Him: We have these different offerings. Me: I am not interested and I know all about them. Him: That is fine and I just need you to sign here saying you do not want any extras in the deal (no attitude and still being very nice). Me: Thanks (and thinking I hope you are still working here when I come back in a year or two for my next ride).

I am on the same vessel as saleen..Awaiting arrival 3/6 and keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to pick up the vehicle at my SoCal dealer 3/12. I need to buy a one way ticket from NorCal but my CA is not sure at this moment about that weekend..

Unless you are having stuff installed at port I don't no why that's unrealistic. I'm in Portland and shooting for the 13th-16th.

That's what I thought as well but both genius and CA in Long Beach say quite possibly not.
Need to pass through customs then onto VPC then carrier.
I'll keep my crossed as that is the ideal weekend for pickup for me..

I pretty much ask them not to sell me anything extra and save time.

Over the years, I have been way ahead for all the crap I did not buy......however, I am very picky / careful about my cars.

When I got my 335 a couple years ago, I got it in Mechanicsburg PA and when the finance lady heard I lived in Essex County NJ most of the year, she tried to "scare me" into all sorts of protection because I "might drive into the city". She grew up in NJ so her pitch was passionate and convincing...LOL!!

She was not happy when I shot down everything before she even got each "product" pitch out of her mouth.

Yeah a few years ago (2006?) I got suckered into some vehicle protection crap for my 330i. My current audi had some garbage about paying for the first complete service check up that was due after a yr.
My plan is not to paying for any additional 'necessities.'
