Dyno Results and Car Weight today M4 6MT lightly optioned (415 rwhp / 3461 pounds)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Had my 2015 M4 dynoed and weighed today. It has roughly 1070 miles on it and is going in for its break-in service next week. What better way to finish break-in than to run it on a dyno

My car is completely stock, except for 15/12mm spacers. Build is M4, 19" wheels, HK, regular leather, M Adaptive, carbon roof.

Dyno:

Added 1 gallon 100 octane race gas to 1/4 full tank of 91 octane.

Took it to Dyno-Comp in Scottsdale, AZ. AWD Dyno-dynamics machine, they said it was a conservative dyno. Just finished Ford F150 Lightning w/ tune, exhaust, intake and did 340 rwhp, 410 rwtq. Thought they were a little pricey at $125, but I did really appreciated that they were able to get me in with short notice.

Wish print-out read exact numbers instead of having to decipher graph, but did 415 rwhp, and 415 rwtq. It was 90 degrees in their shop

This is not a BMW shop. Looks like they do mostly STI and EVOs. The two techs couldn't stop smiling when doing the dyno on the M4 though. They didn't even know what the M4 is rated at from the factory. When I told them BMW rated it at 425 hp, they both had a huge belly laugh and said "I think they underated it!". They mentioned again how their dyno is conservative and how impressed they were and maybe they would start liking BMWs now.

Weight:

Stopped by FlatOut Motorworks in Tempe to throw her on the scales. Car was low on gas about 40 mile range or 1/8th tank, has the spacers of course still. I removed floor mats, tire kit, tools, manual, and trunk panel.

Weight: 3461 lbs

No charge to weigh the car, I'm a good customer. Showed Leroy the dyno sheets and he smiled big. He knows that dyno and concurs that its conservative. Might have to let Leroy drive my car a bit at AMP in November, he's a great driver and will be able to get a lot more out of it than me.

That's great to hear.

This makes me really want to test out my M3 when it gets back home.

Why does the right side weigh so much more than the left?

It's good, that way when your fat ass sits in the driver's seat everything equals out.

I was wondering that too? Do they set it up to compensate for driver weight maybe?

Awesome power. Another one in the +60-70 whp range over the old car.
Today a 415 conservative whp yesterday a 122 mph 1/4 mile. Beast.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the info, after I finish my break in I think I may have to run over to a dyno shop in town to see what I get.

Awesome! I've spent many hours on the dyno since I run stand alone engine management on my other car and I can imagine exactly how that must have felt. Very satisfying for the operators to like what they see. Congrats on the great numbers that were completely effortless, haha.

Is that SAE or STD corrected numbers?

There can be a 10+ hp difference between them, as we saw on the EAS dyno sheets. (EAS got 405 SAE and 415 STD on 91 octane)

How much did the 100 octane mix add do you think?

Slightly off topic but how difficult is it to get 93 octane in CA or other western US states? I'm used to filling 93 in Texas and according to BMW, power output is slightly reduced when using 91 octane.

Not sure on which type of correction. This is the dyno that my race mechanic tells guys to go to when classing their cars for race group, gives conservative numbers from what he says.

I'm guessing there were about 3 gallons of 91 remaining in the tank so adding 1 gallon of 100 should produce somewhere around 93 octane. I typically add a tad bit of race gas when tracking a car hard to prevent pre-detonation and maybe so it won't pull timing on the top end. Not sure if it's necessary on the S55, but it did help my S85 in the past. It sure does smell good when standing behind the car on the Dyno.

Nice... I wish dynos and scales were easy to locate where I live. Sadly, they are not.

Tempted to head out to AMP next month too! I haven't been out there since '05, I think. Of course, pretty sure the M5 would be a fat pig on that track and burn through brake pads.

Do it, I tracked an E60 M5 there last year and it did OK but had padig pads. I'll be there with proauto in November with both M's. It's a great track, wish it was used more.

Yes but they would be read in KG and N-M so would hard to interpret anyway.

AMP is a fantastic track that has suffered some serious legal issues. The sound and capacity restrictions are terrible and really limits it's use.

I haven't run there since before I was an instructor with the CCA and NASA. I saw that the CCA is going out there with the PCA and am very tempted. We'll see. Unfortunately, 4th quarter is my busiest time of year at the office.

Your weight is spread over the 4 wheels but only 66 pounds more on the left.

Didn't you get fitted when you ordered? Weight/height/ass width....
