the m3 was first made as a coupe so the m3 coupe should still be the m3 and the sedan should be the m4, they shouldnt kill the legacy of the m3 like that, specially as we know that m3 sedans are always uncertain but the coupe is the real deal.

In the E30 Range there are no coupes ... only 2- and 4-door sedans!

Even Mercedes hasn't gone there, as far as I know there is no AMG version of their "R" minivan thing.

WOW, let me correct myself. for 1 year Mercedes made a R63 AMG, and sales matched that of the Aztec, so they pulled it! 2007 is the only model year you will find.

What is it with BMW changing up the naming. 1er will be 2er and now the M3 is an M4? I find this hard to believe that this is what these 2 models will be called when they hit the market but if it does pan out it will be one of the dumbest things ever. I just don't get it...I mean what is the logic with changing up the series #'s?

The reason it's called a 4 door coupe is because of the sloping roof-line like a coupe. Sedans can't be called coupes because they're not. A sedan is a car with 4 doors, not 2.

I'm all for BMW adding newer models to the line up. GT, 4door coupe, whatever.
Why on earth would they ever mess with the M3 moniker? Very few cars have as much history as the M3. This is terrible.
