I think the prototype has a V6 in it. The only thing that sounds in-line 6 -ish to me is when the guy gets on it and the car rasps a bit (reminded me of E46 M3). And a V6 can be very raspy so that proves nothing. Rest of the sounds do not remind me of an in-line 6 at all.

About the sound - this is still a prototype so the sounds are not yet final of course. For all we know, they may not even have expended any efforts on sound tuning yet.

Have some faith that the fine M engineers will tune it to sound nice in the production model. This is the iconic M3 afterall, not some rust bucket they're developing

I still dont get it. Why do people care about the sound that much? Do you know that is why BMW did that stupid "Active Sound System" inside the M5? I would rather BMW spend more time and money on how the car drives, not what it sounds like. And yes, I would also like that amazing V8's sound, but it's just not my priority.
