Lovely Spring days bring warmer weather but it also returns BMW prototypes to Nürburgring testing, and we've just spied on video the king of all current BMW prototypes - the much-anticipated F80 M3 Sedan. Powered by an inline 6 or V6 displacing more than 3 litres good for roughly 450hp and featuring up to 3 turbos (with possible electric turbo), the new M3 is set to be better than its predecessor in any and every regard, as usual. We put our money on an inline 6, particularly after an insider recently chimed in saying that the decision had been made to go with the inline engine.

BMW will again offer both a 6-speed manual and an (optional) 7-speed double clutch transmission for the M3.

As we've oft repeated, the new 2014 F80 M3 may be the only M3 model BMW will offer for the next generation as rumors suggest that the F82 Coupe and F83 Convertible versions may be renamed to M4. Expect the F80 M3 to hit the European market sometime in late 2013 with U.S. launch to follow in early 2014.

If you're one of those guys who (understandably) lament the fact that the marvelous S65 V8 powering the current M3 is will be phased out for an inline-6 or v6, check out this video to realize it will still be a unique car and engine. Or as Dr. Nitschke, President at BMW M, told us recently: "We'll surprise you with this car." I love surprises, so we can't wait to see what you've got in store for us, BMW.

Follow our F80 M3 coverage and discussions HERE.

I'm more anxious to hear the specs of this car than to actually see it!

I hope the production model doesn't sound like that. The S65 sounds so much better.

Pretty sweet, but hearing the S65 follow it was even sweeter. Hopefully the sound changes on the production car (and hopefully not piping it through the speakers)

god i cant believe 2014 for us debut when soooo much testing has already been done - it looks so close to production.

on another note, this tri-turbo electric setup will end the "turbocharge vs. supercharge" debate. It will truly be a have-ur-cake-and-eat-it-to setup. NO compromises!!

I don't think it's an I6, there is a fart sound, which is specific to the V8 (design of the intake/exhaust), so I think it's a V6. And the sound is way too deep for an I6. But... we'll see

It is the sedan though. F82 should be a bit smaller.
