The side door panel render looks like it came from a charger and the front hood render looks like its from a mustang.

That coupe is friggin sexy. That sedan is not... The front end is too similar to the overly busy 1M front end.

The dome on the hood of the E9x M3 was there in order to clear the engine. If it is not needed to clear the engine on the new car, why have it?

Because it is an M3 trademark. The E36 didn't have it, and that was the generation where it looked most similar to the base 3er. Regardless of the engine and the "clearance" issues, I hope that they keep the power dome on the new m3/m4. It just makes the front end look that much more menacing when its coming down the road.

Yes, you are right when you said that the dome was used to clear the engine on the e90/e92/e93 ///M models. However on the new twin turbo engine, I really think some guys wanted a dome/bulge on the hood for aesthetic purposes. Without that dome/bulge, the new M3 does not stand out any longer since it's sharing the same hood as the the F30 3-series.

It would really suck if the hood on the F30/F32 3-series is interchangeable with the new ///M3.

it will def be puss without it. what would make it look cool? flared fenders that you don't notice unless you know about it or it's standing next to a base 3 and quad exhaust? not enough

Best render yet. Because you have the proportions right. I'm guessing you started with more of a standard car photograph, vs. others that look more free-hand.

I doubt we'll get the hood bulge, and the intake will be close to M6 rather than 1M.

If you lost the bulge, and photoshopped the new 10-spoke wheels we see on the test mules, you could really be onto something.

How can BMW truly delineate luxury vs motorsport at the price point these Ms? This is why I am holding out for the M2 coupe. Hopefully here motorsport will take over.

I know a group of people who didn't upgrade to the 370z because it lost power domw. The M6 coupe got the double bubble roof. Will these feature roll to the new M4?

I roll function over form. BMW usually over engineers everything but the air intake plenum. Why not do dual scoops front that feed two more streams from inlets on the sides of the power dome?

Do you have to get the EPS steering? Is there an option to get the non servotronic?

I am excited for the new M3/M4 to roll out. I am hoping for more hints of E46 M3. Bring the CSL

The E46 M3 had a slight power dome in the hood. It had a 3.2L I6..
Why not have it in the new model?

M3 E46 and M3 E9X had ITB and thus needed the power dome to be able to respect the regulation of the distance between the highest part of the engine and the hood. The M3/M4 F8X will not have ITB and no other issues make the power dome nesessary.

But it is still possible BMW will do a power dome, but not by the 3F law, as it is the case with the X6 M50d. Both the X5 M50d and X6 M50d have the same front and the same engine, but BMW decided to the the X6 M50d, not the X5 M50d, the power dome from the X6 Hybrid, which in that case was necessary. I just hope BMW M hasn't fallen that low to give the power dome which is not needed, when their philosophy is "form follows function".

While the E46 also had a slight dome, I wouldn't necessarily call it an M3 trademark. The same could be said about the quad exhausts for example. The E30 and E36 M3's did not have the dome or quad exhausts, so technically 50% of the M3 generations did not have these trademarks.

I'm not going to lose sleep on whether the next M3/M4 has the dome or not, but I'm looking at it as function over form. If the dome is needed in order to clear the engine like before, then that's cool in addition to being aesthetically pleasing. If the dome is not needed for clearance but is there, then it seems like it is trying to imitate something. Think of cars with fake hood scoops for another example. The flared fenders are there as a function of covering the wider track and wider wheels/tires.

[UPDATE: the first M3/M4 prototype has just been spotted with a power dome / hood bulge! - see F80 M3 power dome spy photos.]

i used a standard 335i and took a 1M and combined the 2 with some free hand work. and the new spy shots of the M3 shows a bulde hood so im pretty much spot on with that part
