Well, that's completely speculative on my part with not even a hint that I am on the right track from any source. But, given the latest M5 news, I'd give myself pretty decent odds. What do you think?

But, why not start at ~440-450hp, and then offer a comp package increasing power up to 460-470? You and I both know that with the numbers I'm suggesting this car will be an absolute BEAST and will sell even better, without hurting the M5/M6 sales. But, I'm only a car enthusiast with no knowledge of what these numbers mean to BMW. We'll see...

No freaking way will the M3 make only 415 PS. The Maserati V6 is a 3l and makes 410 PS @ 5.500 RPM and 550 Nm @ 1.750-5.000 RPM. with 7.250 RPM redline. If the BMW will rev higher and have more torque it will at least make 440 PS.

As for Comp packages now offering more power, it's a pretty tacky thing for BMW to do unless owners of the the non-comp models can retrofit the power bump for a small fee.

There is no Competition Package coming. You'll have to wait till facelift for that. It is not like AMG. And Competition Package isn't worth the moeny. You can get better thanks to aftermarket.

Motor data sheets that are probably already been sent to some premium customers in Germany, unfortunately, confirm exactly the power that has already been made known here by the VIN -> 310 KW = 415hp = 421PS The new F80M3 generates its superior performance one and only from the low weight and significant improvements in the chassis! |

But, I do think that putting CCB in the package would kill it for many. I don't think they'll do that for the US cars. Could remain optional everywhere in fact.

We've already discussed that same effect but with respect to power-to-weight which is the more telling number. The F8x is going on a diet, and hence need not have as big a power increase to see an increase in performance. It does not mean it won't get a power increase, just that its premature to assume things - we know almost nothing about the chassis still. Hopefully that changes after M-Fest next month.

Ehh... F30 was suppose to be 150lb lighter than E90 and that never happened. Chassis got better, but weight loss was insignficant.

At this point, I figure a 3700lb+ F80 M3 with a 465hp engine is all but totally out of the question. We should know soon.

I hope so...
Personally, I would much rather have 3400-3500lb with 414hp than 3700lb with 465hp.

What about 1.480kg = 3.265lbs and 310KW = 415hp = 421PS for an standard trim F80 without extras (but also without CCBs!) ... and later (LCI?) with the Competition-Package ~320KW !!!???

And also an NOS time of 30sec faster than the previous M3 should be confirmed by an famous race driver ! Last edited by Uli_HH; 04-23-2013 at 02:31 AM. |
