I'm very thankful that BMW has taken the effort to build a relatively low weight M3. Why? From a sales volume perspective they don't need to. They could have just taken the cheap route and use the F3X as is and add bigger brakes a few strengthenings here and there and larger turbos making 500 hp and it would sell like hot cakes. Just look at the current 5 series and the M5/M6. Huge, heavy, isolated, beautiful cars with massive power. All making very good $$$ for BMW.
We who lament this development are in minority and whenever cars are built for my minority I'm thankful understanding the tough internal politics, added costs and effort involved in doing so. That said I think for BMW it will prove to be well spent resources from a brand strengthening aspect and longterm viability of the BMW allure and reputation. The M3 is the heart of everything core BMW. |

Can we get a specific time? I know Jason said this evening US time but that's just as ambiguous as everything he said before! An example of specific time will be 5PM EST. I would gladly time travel if I had the means. :-)

Jason, et all at the event, have you seen these semi camoed cars in Scott's picture? If so, is the silver paint a clean silver like Glacier or is it the baby blue hued Silverstone?

For the M3 to trap what the 991S traps (120 mph) would be encoaching on M5/6 trap speeds (which also happen to be 120 mph). I just dont see that happening. The e9x m3 is a 112 mph trap speed car. The next will likely be ~4-5 mph better putting it in the 117 range. Either way, 117 is seriously quick. The m4 will likely be as fast as a bolt on e9x m3 (again, 117 mph or so). And I know I never think my full catless e92 with dct is slow. And you can be sure it wont be as pinpoint accurate or precise as the 991. Seriously. And the homepage news is absolutely worthless today too. What a tease!

They NEED to have a trunk, room, safety. comfort (the base model does). Please find me a brand new 3300lb sedan. I want $1 gallon gas too, but you don't hear me complaining about it right?

Put my M4 deposit down last April. May have to put off retirement for a couple years!

But i meant literally. I think the current and all past M cars are fine though. But with the advent of m perf parts and m logos all over the place on non m cars, thats where marketing comes from. |

How about an actual owner! Time slip of an actual owner, 120 mph http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...3&postcount=31 Mag times are only good when they compare two cars side by side, same day, same conditions. Show me an e9x m3 from a drag strip with anywhere close to what mags say...you wont. Show me a time slip of an m4 when it comes out that is 120 mph like the 991S...wont happen. Think about this, head to head, same day, the 991S was faster in both ET and trap speed vs a C7 Stingray. That say a lot given the 991S is down 60 hp and like 100 lb/ft tq. The m3 will obviously be heavier than both those cars too and wont put down 120 mph trap speeds. The 991S is FASTER than a 997.1 GT3. The M3/4 will be lucky if it can keep up with that kind of straight line acceleration. Last edited by Wolfinwolfsclothing; 09-24-2013 at 01:45 PM.. |

It will be worth the wait. You will be impressed by how they have engineered the car in response to a new weight reduction programme. Not only do we celebrate the announcement of a new BMW M3. But also a new icon - The BMW M4.
But in between all this is a very promising future for BMW M. And a new journey for further possibilities now that BMW have mastered the ability to use widespread carbon all thanks to BMWi and the significant investment involved. BMWi and BMW M. Will not crossover as brands but in synergies and philosophy . The exciting lighter era for BMW M begins today.
