I would say this is tied for the best transmission ive driven from BMW.
I liked the e46 transmission, though it was a little tricky to shift smoothly at lower gears when driving slowly. I loved the 1m transmission, this thing was spectacular. Great shifter, great clutch, easy to drive etc. This car is tied with the 1m for me. Shifter is even better IMO, and clutch is probably tied. Its better in that its got a wide engagement point, but its not quite as good as the clutch is a little light for my taste (BUT, nowhere near as light as the spring loaded e9x which I never got fully comfortable with even in 2 years) Overall, excellent transmission and finally one that doesn't embarrass itself compared to the options from audi and Porsche.

So I understand that the rev-match feature is switched off when in Sport+. Is it possible to turn in on in Sport+? Based on the fact that you have to be in Sport+ to drive the car without rev-match, I’m guessing the answer is no.

You are correct, no cant be turned on in sport plus. It should be able to be turned on and especially off (in my opinion) in what ever mode. Driver to decide.

The shifter lever, gear gates, gear lever bushings and linkage, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and clutch actuation through the pedal are all...
The best all around combination I've ever driven. The clutch pedal is slightly light, the gear shifting is slightly chunky/notchy. You can't have everything and usually you have to sacrifice one of the following: - Either the car shifts like crap in traffic due to too heavy a clutch, too grabby a clutch/pressure plate, too light a flywheel, or too notchy a gear shift or... - It shifts great in traffic but when you are ripping on it it feels vague and disconnected due to a softer clutchpedal (effort), softing grabbing clutch, soft shifter bushings, etc. This is very balanced. Slightly tiring in traffic while maintaining excellent aggressive driving feel and operation. |

Not at all. I love the fact that it rev matches into 1st. Causes some stares and head turns with pedestrians at crosswalks, but better that than silent Teslas that creep up on people.

Appreciate that brother. Yeahhh,!theyre all special orders. Any that you find laying around on a dealer is a buyer who backed out. Supposedly this is the last M6 coming in mt at which of its true- I will be forced to look outside the brand (if I'm buying a dct that's over 6 figures- there are better options out there you know?)

I haven't been able to get smooth shifts down in this car. I bought a demo with 3500km, and I dunno if the guy before me fried the clutch, but sometimes I smell a slight burning after driving the car and I fear that it's the clutch. If I attempt to shift normally the car is very jerky as in it bucks back and forth like a bronco, especially in sport+ and in the first 3 gears. It seems like I have to ride the clutch a bit when I switch gears to prevent this. What would you guys recommend I do? I'm at around 7000km.

Honestly, I only drive in Sport+ throttle mode. This is what I'm use to on my 620whp Evo. A direct throttle that I'm in control of. I don't particularly care for the automatic throttle blips in the other modes. I do it all myself.
Now on the highway, I'll use economy mode, but that's it. I'd also like to add that the 6MT in the F8X is VERY nice. One of the nicest in the biz for sure. I've driven just about every performance car on the market and I'm in love with this thing. Last edited by CaryTheLabelGuy; 03-17-2015 at 09:15 AM.. |

Everyone has their own preference and I won't argue that. However, I much prefer the F80 clutch over the clutch in my 996tt. Night and day, IMO. I felt that the 996tt clutch was incredibly vague and I had to listen to the engine versus using feel. I can easily go on feel alone in the F80.

I seriuosly doubt it. The life expectancy of a clutch extends way beyond whatever the maintenance program term is. To have a clutch wear out that quickly would likely be deemed abuse, for which I'm sure there's language in the maint program terms and conditions. Seems to me that that SA was pulling your cousin's leg
