There was speculation on this but, as far as I know, nothing has been confirmed with certainty. If true, I'm excited but would like to see a source

I interpreted his opening sentence where he said "MY (model year) 2016 is getting the competition package" as definitive Maybe I'm wrong

Yeah... I'm familiar with that discussion. I don't know if anything was definitive. I think Scott26 mentioned the competition package would be announced in May but there was confusion (which he didn't clarify) as to whether it would be actually available in 2016 or 2017. Having said that, it did sound like 2016 to me... I was just hoping you had something concrete.

Though I took it as a sure thing. "Expect" is kinda concrete ya? My dealer (sales manager), who actually impressed me with his BMW knowledge is under the impression it's coming as well. We'll know soon enough. |

Plus, did anyone notice the acceleration numbers on the LCI 340i??? 4.7/8 seconds 0-60??? That's quick. And closing the gap to the F8X Not to mention the suspension and steering rack changes. I think the comp package will be major. |

There is almost nothing I can foresee which would make me order a competition package on the f80. Seriously. Power? It already has too much. Suspension? The existing adaptive suspension option gives you 2 excellent road options to choose from (comfort and sport) and one marginally useless for daily driving, more suited for the track (sport +). 437m wheels are already 19" and already look very aggressive. What else? Maybe slightly shorter springs and suspension? That may be the only thing I can think of right now.
What are the ZCP guys holding out for? Curious. |

And I really doubt they would throw in a $5k MPE on a $1-2k comp package. |

Depends.
On the e46 M3, the competition package did offer some very neat features over the standard version. And I'm not talking about the wheels or brakes. I'm talking about the vastly improved steering ratio and M sport mode. Those two alone were worth the investment IMO. The shorter steering ratio was very noticeable and convenient both on and off the track. Same goes for the M sport mode, which would allow more "fun" while still not fully engaging the annoying DSC. Retrofitting either option is a major PITA until this day, 10 years later. In fact, nobody has retrofitted the M mode until very recently. |

I seriously doubt we will see a totally new engine architecture based on the N58 in the F8X, it would just be too costly. Further, if you believe that the competition pack will be offered with a diferrent engine (based on the N58) than the S55 in the base M3/4, you are dreaming in technicolour; two engine architectures concurently offered in the F8X does not really make sense. It is possible that the comp pack will come with a power boost, but more likely from a software tune on the S55. I also believe all new F8X (not only the comp pack) will get a power boost when the M2 gets released. Regarding 0-60mph of the 340, the M3/4 are still significantly quicker. The gap widens even more at higher speeds.

^ Over boost software technology like what was found on the N54 335is is pretty likely for the F80 series is my guess. It worked pretty well in the IS version as power came on when you needed it most.

Along with suspension & electric steering tweaks I'd add MDM adjustment, would be nice. Wheels, I'm with you, not critical.
