Can someone shed some further light on these, namely:

1. Is production already locked or can they still be customized (e.g. choice of tranny, brakes, rear shade, etc.)
2. ED available?
3. PCD available?
4. Any formal registry listing serial numbers/sequence of the 150, with option detail (e.g. % made in manual vs DCT)
5. Which dealers have an allocation (150 cars vs ~400 dealers nationwide) and how is that allocation determined (e.g. based on overall and ///M sales. etc.)
6. Will all 150 be customer cars (vs BMW Corp keeping a few in the fleet)

In my opinion they will be selling for well above MSRP, $120-125k USD is my guess. I realize this may not be the right car for a lot of people on here, but at the end of the day it IS a limited edition with only 500 made in a beautiful color that several collectors including myself are going to buy. Out of the 500 only 150 will make it to the states, so having 1 of 150 will be very cool.

Limited edition doesnt mean shit unless its "unique" factors are truly desirable. For example, scion frs brings out all these shit limited editions thats doesnt hold value, actually you get hit with worse depreciation since you pay extra fron the get go.

What is "truly desirable" is not dictated by you. What you consider unique and worthy is meaningless. I personally dig the exterior color and interior seats enough to buy this car, assuming that I can find one at a reasonable price (wishful thinking). The "limited" factor is just an extra bonus.

But you went as far to compare Scions to M3's, so what do I know. Your opinion is clearly the holy grail. Can't wait to hear about limited Camry's next...

I don't think so. There are millions of BWM fanatics and a limited edition makes the car collectable. It doesn't matter if it performs better or worse. All that matters is that it is limited supply. I think 150 units in the US and 1,000 worldwide is a pretty small number.

Also, the world is swimming in money right now, so anything that is real (not money) and limited tends to get a high price.

If you look at rare cars like low production Ferraris or any other collectable car, you will see that they can sell for much more than their original selling price.

Also, Scion shit limited editions are not really comparable to a BMW M3 limited edition. I can see how a Scion would not be collectable. But M3's are a different story.

BTW, I was recently reading about a low production 2 series (I think) that is selling for more that the original price after a few years. BMW build thousands or 10,000+ vehicles, and it is not even an M.

I could see how in 10 or 20 years a Limited Edition 30 M3 could sell for $50K or $100K, while a regular production unit in excellent condition might be $20K.
