Ex 1m owner here. Put a deposit down on the M2 CS last month with the intent of buying only if it's manual. Don't give a shit if DCT is 0.2 seconds faster - there's tunes for that Still hoping bmw surprises us all

Be prepared to pay over 100k for this one due to the "limited edition" tax.

Of course DCT is here to stay. No doubt in that. But if you did understand, you would know that it's actually quite fun and engaging chugging through the gears on a car like an M3/M4, instead of mashing your right foot whenever you want to go fast (which is fine, if you prefer that.) It has nothing to do with grandpa or whatever you're saying; I've fell in love with stick ever since I drove my first stick car and never looked back.

I take my mountain bike on a trail nearby my house at times. These days I see people zooming through the trail on their motorized bikes. Sh*t they go fast as hell and does look fun at times, but would I get on one of those motorized ones? Hmmmm... nah. Am I a grandpa? Uh... no. Probably younger than you, frankly.

Maybe I'm missing it but I didn't see anything in the press release about a CF hood. I figured it would be mentioned in the weight savings paragraph, but it's not there.

Is it possible that we're going to have a non-CF, GTS look alike hood available for purchase through OEM?? That'd be tits.

+1

I'm 29 and i've only owned stick. Autos put me to sleep.

Do not get the appeal of the DCT at all, considering most guys don't track their cars. The stop and go traffic argument holds some merit, but still not worth the slight increase in comfort vs the total loss of driving engagement. But that's just me

I don't understand this obsession with race cars for grandpas. DCT is here to stay and will be the default transmission for any performance car going forward. This is a "Competition" version, why would it not have the faster transmission?
Huh? I didn't know race cars came with navigation and 20" wheels and plush leather.

Oh wait it's actually not a race car. It's limited edition GT car where the focus is supposed to be on driver enjoyment. I guess if numbers on paper increase our enjoyment then yes I totally get that.

But I would suspect less than 1% of us here on the boards laps a specific track often enough and well enough to actually see reduced lap times from a dct transmission versus more engaging manual transmission. You realize how absurd it is to want to get the fastest possible transmission over a more fun transmission when you aren't even a competitor?

If you were really interested in lap times the first thing you'd do is sell the ridiculous wheels and get 18" lightweights with r comps. That alone would make you much quicker than a transmission swap.

This CS is ridiculous and barely improves the formula to warrant what will be an enormous price tag. It will undoubtedly sell out but BMW clearly phoned it in on this one. It's just lazy at this point. But good for them it will market well and sell out.

Yup, I read that too. Note that I posted this before that "press release leak" . If the ~800 unit GTS is ultra-low volume, let's see what "limited edition" means .

that's funny how you say " DCT is here to stay. " .. . Automatic transmissions have been around for a long time. . it's not like they are a new thing..

At the heart of the new M4 CS is the most powerful version of BMW M divisionís twin-turbocharged 3.0L inline 6-cyl. gasoline engine yet. Fitted with a more free-flowing exhaust and other as-yet-unspecified modifications, it develops 454 hp and 442 lb.-ft (600 Nm) of torque, trumping the standard M4ís powerplant by 29 hp and 37 lb.-ft. (50 Nm) and the competition package engine tuning available on the recently facelifted M4 by 10 hp and a similar 37 lb.-ft.
I am eager to find out more about the engine specs and power-torque cruves. The fact that the CS engine may have 37lb-ft more than the regular AND CP M4, indicates it will have a rather beefier power curve than the the CP and would mean better acceleration over the CP than the meagre 10hp increase over the CP suggest.

Isn't the 30-Jahre limited edition? What is the count on that, 500?

I guess CS will be more than 500, and 800.

I subscribe to the theory that paddle shifting benefits a novice more than an experienced track rat... But this discussion feels off topic so I'll move on.

"Early 2018".

Any idea on pricing?
The strange thing is that Scott26 said in an earlier post that the M4 CS was getting a new BMW blue color.

With all due respect, Porsche was saying the same thing and now is offering their GT3 with manual. This is what pple want really.

Let's see if the official car is close to these renders I've done a couple of months ago... http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1343528

I speculated that it would have the M4 GTS hood and rear Oleds but there were quite some skeptical people about these.

Also it would be a big disappointment if were not offered with a manual. Even Porsche realised the error and offered that option in their new GT3...
