Things your neighbors say about your car

I can now only imagine...

I passed on my 340xi w/ MPPSK to my wife and heard it cold start for the first time from an outsiders perspective. I was in my home office in the back of my house which has some minor sound isolation and I still heard it growling on startup... While the ZCP sport exhaust has a better consistent aggressive sound I think the MPPSK still has a better sound on shifting and I miss the pops I could induce on overrun so the MPE is definitely on the list and I'm hoping I can get some of that back but I feel bad for the neighbors. I at least was turning off the MPPSK boost(comfort mode) while in the neighborhood at late/early hours. I know some neighbors are trying to sleep in the day after working some late oncall hours but I still get curtious waves so I think I'm safe!

I don't care mind if people ask how much the car costs, although I've never heard that from a neighbor. They could easily figure out the range if they wanted to.
If anything I don't want to reveal that I paid 10k under MSRP while a better negotiator could have gotten 12k off!

2k miles and I've already been pulled over once and was asked how much my car cost by the officer. I was truthful and I was left with just a warning though I think that's for another thread

"I love the sound of the exhaust. This is an M car right?" while in my 340xi From a co-worker that drives a newer 4 series. I usually describe it as inspired by M cars though.

Neighbors are fun, I get along fine with them but say it comes Halloween I have some nice things to say about a few of the dentists in the neighborhood that pass out pencils to my kids! I wonder if they have a forum about things their neighbors say about them during Halloween

Not a neighbour but had a nice interaction from the security guy at the airport....

"Did you spec if like that from Factory?"

Me: "Err....I think so, I bought it used and haven't modified It"

"The carbon roof, wide body and wheels are all like that?"

Me: "Yes"

"I had a BMW once, a 135 but I crashed it. I've got a GTI now, these look nice though"

Me: "Thanks, GTI is nice. I think I should go now"

I live in a gated neighborhood where everyone has five to fifteen acres and we're one of the youngest families. Nobody cares about what I drive.


If anything, they wonder why the hell I go through cars faster than they go through underwear.

This past Saturday morning, around 9:45, after I pulled the ///M out of the garage to bring the Boyz to soccer, my neighbor who I previously mentioned in this thread (She can tell when the ///M is coming out vs. the CBR cause her windows rattle when it's the ///M), says to me from her front yard "The car is sounding good!!" I smiled and waved at her and her friend and said thanks. Her husband, who is sitting on the porch, says with a grumbly voice "No it doesn't...it does not sound good"

I laughed a little bit inside, as I am pretty sure he is reflecting on all the times I take the ///M out at 6:00 in the morning so I can take one of my motorcycles out to get to work. His bedroom is on the first floor, right on the corner of the house closest to my garage. Hers is on the second floor. (They are an older couple and great people) When I take the car out, it's doing the high rev warm up. I keep the car running and then roll the motorcycle out, get back in the car and back in the garage it goes.

I am pretty sure as I am really enjoying the moment, although brief, he is not. Its less than a minute and he has never said anything about it, but his comment was a good indicator he wants to say something. We are all pretty good friends, and I am not obnoxious about it.

Side story to this, when I had given up sugar, this same neighbor had teased me about how wonderful the blueberry pie was he was eating, and he had done so knowing I had given up sugar and that blueberry pie was my favorite. The next morning I took my CBR out and backed it up as close as I could get to his window. I started the bike up and revved it for awhile and as I did that, I asked him how that F$*&ing blueberry pie was?!? Later that day, he apologized about the pie, and said what I had done was not necessary...

So, he knows the levels I will go to if I want to be obnoxious. He knows I am quick with getting the car in and out.

Neighbors hardly noticed. They noticed more with the Estoril Blue 435. Not even any complaints about the ZCP startup roar at 530am. Should've gotten MPE lol.

Saturday was the first time I could drive w/ my windows down since I got the car.

I had 5 people come up and talk to me at lights in a 15 minute drive.

My neighbors really liked my car, some opinions have changed since I have gone with an EVC controller, I leave the valves open and I have the AA midpipe, and, I just got the Hex Stage 1 tune with the GTS Burbles, now the ones on the fence straight up hate me. I actually had an old lady stare at me yesterday and then just nod as I slowed and the burbles kicked in. I was laughing hysterically.

I haven't had a neighbor say anything yet, although one guy five houses down likes to grill on his drive way. He is always standing in front of his grill with his apron and thongs and just stares at me coming and continues to stare as I pass by. When he is out I like to cruise by, but when its early morning I like to give him some juice from first followed by a quick shift to second with a slow rev down before a down shift pop into first by my house.

This is an incredibly entertaining thread

I will get the occasional "Hey nice car!" from a neighbor every now and then, but when I let my girlfriend take the car for a day you'd think she was in a Ferrari by the way people act.

Ha.....some random neighbor said a Yellow Car was speeding thru the neighborhood. Points out my yellow car to a cop.
(loud knocking at the door at 10 o clock AM on a Saturday)

GF comes out and officer asks who's yellow car is this can we speak to the owner?
She comes and gets me and I walk outside in my pajamas.
Officer: I just got a compliant that someone seen your yellow car speeding thru the neighborhood 10 mins ago and pointed your car out. I ran your plates and see you weren't from the area so I thought you ditched the car and took off running.

Me: (says in the back of my mind fuck would I ditch my damn m3 for?) Officer I haven't left the house obviously I'm still in my pajamas and you could have touched the hood of the car and would have known it wasn't me.

Officer: Well I got a compliant from someone and they just said your yellow car.

Me: (Again in the back of my mind there's alot of yellow fucking cars I ain't the only one in the got damn world) There's a yellow camaro, a yellow cobalt, and a yellow mustang that all speed thru here. It wasn't me.

That supposed to be 5 min convo turned into a 30 min investigation when all the cop had to do was ask. Man I swear whoever that neighbor was that pointed my yellow car out really hates me.
