Quick Tire Question

Quick question

The factory OEM rims 19inch 437 and tires can come with the car are

255/35/19
275/35/19

When I got the car the previous owner has these on, on the same rims

265/35/19
275/35/19

No issues I been 200km+

-

My question is can I go

275/35/19?
285/35/19? Or 295

Can I run wide tires? Or what’s the widest tire I can run on the same OEM rims?
I hear you can stretch the rubber running 285?295 not safe? It can pop

Your thoughts?

A 275 is too wide for 9” wide wheel and a 295 is too wide for a 10” wide wheel. Will they fit? Yes. Will you get the full benefits of having wider tires? No. There are plenty of articles and videos about running wide tires on narrower wheels and the results of all of the tests show a narrower tire on a wider rim outperforms a wider tire on a narrower rim. Also, a wide tire on a narrow rim changes the way the tire performs at high slip angles/limit of grip and it results in a tire with abrupt breakaway characteristics.

I’d recommend a 265 on a 9” and a 285 on a 10”.

M3SQRD is 100% correct. Also, try not to get too caught up with the actual numbers printed on the sidewall of the tire since not all 275mm wide tires are actually 275mm wide. You really need to look at the actual tread width specs for a specific tire because some 265 mm or 275mm wide tires are wider than some 285 mm or 295mm tires!

A 265/35/19 and 285/35/19 Michelin PS4S will fit great on your stock 437M wheels and it will give it that thick n' meaty appearance.

You will have a more balanced feel with a 265/285. With a 275/285 you should be incurring more understeer.

I run 265/285 and it's pretty much ideal. 275 MPS4S still spun launching hard. 285 still slips but it's much better than 275.
