Unless you're waiting for the LCI M, you're going to be pretty disappointed to find out that they aren't LEDs...

If the flashing occurs only when ABS is activated - seems like it should be legal and a good idea to use everywhere. ABS active = emergency.

I coded it also. See the video below taken from my buddy's Corvette, fast forward to the 2:00 mark to see my M4. You can see the lights in action. Note that on US cars, the secondary brake lights also come on during hard braking. The Euro coding only adds flashing to them at to the third brake light.

I thought the lights are triggered by "hard braking", a brake force threshold of some sort. In my video, I see them coming on in almost every corner and I am pretty sure I don't "ride" the ABS that much . I rarely ever feel ABS in the brake pedal, but when I do, the feedback is very clear.

I was lazy and didn't want to look it up, but you went ahead and made me Look at these codings: FEM_BODY 3060 ESS_AKTIVIERBARER_AUSGANG bremslicht_blinkend This is the code that activates the e-braking FEM_BODY 3060 ESS_AKTIVIERUNG_GESCHW User Value werte=02 (5 km/h) Threshold speed for activating emergency brake light And this code is what I always understood to be that threshold. I haven't tested it out, and chances are I wont....but if it IS related to the first code, then that would mean that it isn't really ABS related, correct? The answer to this question might be much more readily answered by shawnsheridan ......

These are my favorite posts, I'm a network security engineer and sometimes I have to do some google engineering and when I come up on a forum that has the same issue as me and at the bottom is say's, "figured it out", end of thread, without an explanation, god I love that!

Here is the info on the code:
Euro Braking (blinking when braking hard): FEM_BODY => ESS_AKTIVIERBARER_AUSGANG = bremslicht_blinkend I believe it was also posted a couple of posts earlier. This is what I coded on the M4. |

Was wondering when this coding mod was show up. Didn't see it brought up in other threads after so long that I thought the F8x didn't support it.
Anyway, great mod to have. To chime in the US spec cars sorta already have this but the lights don't flash and just stay solid. During a UDE event, I chatted with an instructor and told me the lights do come on when ABS kicks in. It also just so happens to be during the ABS turn segment of the Car Control Clinic I signed up for. Seeing how easy it to code and the huge safety benefit is a big win. I could care less if annoys the driver behind me. If it keeps him/her awake and away from getting rear ended then do it. Plus it'll keep up the BMW driver stigma if being jerks as a bonus

I am so glad I coded this. I believe it prevented me from getting rear ended. I was in a caravan of cars going about 85mph when we came upon a bend in the freeway and around the bend was a traffic jam. The car in front of me slammed on his brakes but couldn't stop in time and hit the car in front of him. I slammed on mine as well and the car that was behind me most likely saw my brake lights flashing which gave him enough time to get on his brakes. I thought for sure he would rear end me but got right up to my bumper and stopped in time. I strongly believe if my brakes did not strobe he wouldn't have gotten on his brakes hard enough to avoid hitting me.
