I usually fly Lufthansa business class form the West Coast as I found this option to be more updated and comfortable than others. Delta looks pretty outdated.
Awesome pics and trip. I can't wait for my next one.

LOL. Congrats and enjoy!

I really enjoyed your ED travel log. Moonstone is such an awesome color.

Grimsel Pass, Furka Pass and the Sustenstrasse/Pass are some my favorite Alpine roads. As soon as I saw the lead pic from the front page I knew this thread would be epic! Thanks for putting such a huge effort for all of us to share in your ED trip.

(1.) Lugano is a trap. You don't just drive into or out of it - it's a maze that you'd swear has a Minotaur somewhere. NEVER drive into Lugano.
(2.) SS340 looks like a road on the map. I even street viewed it. Nothing prepares you for its horrors. If I had a beater rental, no problem.
So this has be a little concerned! This was my route from Munich to the Lake Como region as well. On google maps I agree SS340 looks fairly straightforward. If this way is not recommended, does anyone else have a good route from Munich to Lake Como? I'll be going in mid-May so I need to keep that in mind in regard to any mountain passes.

Also, Park Hyatt Milan. Fancy schmantzy!
I'll be in Monaco for the F1 race this year on my ED trip. Your pics of that have me excited! Will be held up at the Hermitage for the action. Hoping parking my car there for the duration of my stay is an option.

Well, here are my two big tips:

(1.) Don't drive your new car in the lakes region ... I know, I know. It could've been October, who knows, but those roads are not made for new cars. Downtown Milan during rush hour was a piece of cake comparitively ... and at one point in Milan a streetcar was following behind me and I was driving on a pedestrian only street ... I'm not a wuss with this stuff, but i can firmly say I will never try the lakes region in my own car again. BTW, this dude got his wheels stolen and his car vandalized in Parma, Italy. Just sayin'

Ends well though!

(2.) Get a chip-n-Pin credit card and make sure it works in Europe. We had one that supposedly would work ... nope. 70% of gas stations, toll booths, etc that we stopped at rejected the card. Because a major pain in the ass finding cash to have on hand.

Hey GrussGott Amazing journal of an amazing journey! I've enjoyed each photo throughout the thread! It's exactly what my fiance and I want to do for our upcoming honeymoon but unfortunately we have been restricted by our limited vacation days.

Great post! Loved the journey and really felt I was able to really appreciate your experience.

And the car looks tremendous too

One question though.... Why did you decide against the Route Napoleon?

Of all the roads I've driven across Europe I'd say it's the most enjoyable one. The alpine passes are good for scenery, as is this one, but this road allows you to really flow for mile after mile, and has enough straights to allow you to use the full rev range. But it also has less traffic than those alpine passes and has mostly got a nice road surface and a nice comfortable width too.

I can't think of a better road to enjoy that car on!

Just got back from Italy trip myself... Delta sucks. Planes outdated... Driving in Europe always a much better experience than driving in NYC/Northern NJ tho.

Wow, I really like this color!!! I want to see it in person though, it looks as if it would be hard to match if you had to buy/paint aftermarket parts. i.e. paint matched reflectors.

Congrats on the new car!!!

you can't match moonstone or mineral white so it's definitely a risk / downside.
