My guess is that they are just being thorough and proactive so that they don't get inundated with calls from GTS owners and potential buyers (yes, there is still some unsold inventory) worried they might have the plebian drive shaft. |

The current CFK driveshaft part # is: 26107857629 with a MRSP of $3,139.82. Have to revisit this in 3 months to compare to the steel replacement shaft price, but knowing BMW will probably remain the same for an inferior adjustment.

I would be very surprised if they came up with a second round of GTS that has the same specs as the latest one.

PPF is another term for gasoline particulate filter. A gpf will help to reduce exhaust particle number quantity to meet euro6c and d emissions legislation.

Usually if you're looking for a long term keeper you want the last Model year but it looks like 17M3 > 18M3.
Bigger question is will new bigger filter and emissions equipments de-rate the horsepower? |

Apparently our German friends like to speak out of both sides of their mouth. 350 US GTS units turned out to be 450. So where will they stick the new filters in the CS cars, and the GTS models that were supposedly a one time thing? Most likely boils down to cost cutting with an explanation intended to sooth the angry masses. What's next to go Ceramic Brakes, no wait you pay for those, never mind.

I'm guessing I'm looking for 5000 us discounts on these cars with steel shafts?

Well, more like the 18 M3 built before November with the Icon LEDs standard > 18 M3s after Nov 17

68k of cars that mostly sees non-daily duties aren't going to impact emissions in any significant way.
Wow.... what a load of marketing bull crap. If cost is an issue maybe BMW should stop using CFs on all those CF trims on various M Sport "not really M" bimmers. |

Was seriously thinking about a 18M3 with individual color but guess now I'll have to step up to the M3CS ... that is if they put a real stereo and real door panels in it. I just peaked under my car, oh what a mighty shaft it has.... |

Our friend scott will surely tell us we are all stupid and this is actually an upgrade. If that doesn't work he will bring politics into it and blame either migrants, Merkel, eu or some combination there of. I think we were told that electric steering improved fuel efficiency and they had to do it because of epa regs. Many retards here actually believed that. The intelligentsia at bmw marketing now seem more focused on attacking their most dedicated and reliable clients and migrants so who knows what nonsense they come up.
Regardless of how bmw marketing spins this, it of course plays into a much larger trend at bmw of cutting costs to increase profits rather than focus on a solid product, in this case the absolute best drivers sport sedan. Everything from electric steering, to fwd and platform sharing with Toyota is done with this cost cutting in mind. We are all as guilty as bmw is, as we have not held Bmws feet to the flame on this issue. Most of us accept all these measures which dull what used to be the pinnacle of sports sedans. Bmw has already figured out that as long as they add a new pastel color designed for a 4 year old girl, people will accept whatever product is underneath. This is our fault for eating it up. So many purists have long left and the few of us left are drowned out by the barrage of morons who care about what pattern wrap or what shade of gold is on a car. Speaking about the terrible trends of electric steering, fwd, whoring out of bmw m badges and now platform sharing with Toyota, it is the platform sharing with the z4 that will define the future of bmw as a maker of enthusiast cars. Without exaggeration, that is the most critical car we will have ever seen in regards to bmw as a maker of enthusiast cars. If enthusiasts do not speak up and your average idiot accepts that car then bmw will have won and we will all have lost. It will be clear we don't care about anything other then looks and the bmw badge. Bmw will then be smart to do the ultimate in cost cutting and use shared platforms across the lineup with Toyota. The m3 will ride on a Camry platform etc. you laugh now but if that car has success you will see it, just as you laughed at the idea of turbo in a bmw m, shared engines, fwd, electric steering, m cars with torque converters, etc. at each step including this many people laugh and are dismissive. That only degrades our position to advocate for a good product. If we stick to low standards and accept this low class cheaping out then that is what we will get. We must all make our opinions and voice heard and not accept this garbage.

There is no connection between a shaft and the emissions, that is not a component of the emissions system anyway.
Something is not right and to me is like they believe that we are dumb enough to buy this extremely poor explanation. I am not buying space gains by replacing the shaft explanation, we are talking diameter anyway, not some lateral important space. Does somebody has the diameter of one and the other? just curious. I am pretty sure that after we see that filter, we will realize that it was BS. Space can be found if they really want. The CF shaft was a winner in my eyes due to its weight , strength and lack of receptivity to external elements. So, 1. Either the carbon fiber one started to show some problems and they don't want to blow it publicly, so quietly are replacing it with the previous approach (steel), (I don't know, I might be wrong) 2. Either they want to cut costs, or there is a different explanation from technical point of view that we are not aware of. Anyway, so much about CF and weight savings... |

Now, they turn around and say the new steel drive shaft will perform equally to the CF shaft? Did something happen to steel technology over the last three years that tells you this isn't just marketing bullshit? |
