The worse part of the E90 clutch was that it was way too over assisted. Reminded me of the POS over assisted 911 Turbo clutches. 0 feel, way too soft, and annoying on hill starts.

Anyone here who has owned an E46 or E36 M3's?
Can you confirm that the F8x clutch is heavier like these two M3's? Or is it super soft like stepping on dog excrement like the E9x?

Ive driven Porsches and a lot of different cars with MT and this clutch is more
to the softer side which I was very surprised. It's a little softer than I would like but after a few weeks I got used to it . Now I have grown to like it. |

Can anyone comment on how the clutch pedal feel of the M4 compares to the clutch pedal in the R56 JCW? I’ve found my JCW clutch pedal to be mostly spot on but perhaps a tad on the heavy side. I seem to recall the clutch pedal in my buddy’s 1M was lighter by comparison but had a more predictable feel.

I have no issues with the clutch feel on this car, it's engages in the "sweet spot" of pedal travel, and the weight is just right. The shifter is just sublime, with well defined gates, you would really have to be ham fisted to money shift this car.

So all my cars have been manual and I am thinking about making the switch to DCT on the M4. Test drove one a few days ago and I liked it. My only fear is getting "bored" with it.

Pick the 6MT. As others have mentioned, it's very precise, tight, engages really well, nice clutch take up, etc. 5 months on mine and really enjoying it. Not even bothered by the rev-match feature - I generally drive in sport+. |

i have e36M, F80 clutch is probably 50% lighter...definitely noticeable...it will be the first thing u noticed when u clutch to start the f8x motor..i drove my e36 to test drive the f80 and after the test drive i got back in the e36 and it felt like a dinosaur...more strain on the foot...at first i didnt like it, preferred the heavier clutch but after a while like most have said u get used to it and like it. e36 driving in traffic id get shin splints and my leg would nearly give out...now its a non issue

I had the same concerns about choosing DCT. Went with the manual after much deliberation. I am SO HAPPY i chose the manual. The car is just awesome, and the manual transmission is precise. I have an automatic audi as well, and I much prefer the M4 as my DD with the manual transmission any day of the week.

I agree. Anyone have experience with the IND replacement cf knob ? Or other aftermarket kits?

No such luck. It's either Sport+ or you're stuck with rev-match.

E9x M3 was 99.99999999% lighter from the E36 M3. In fact, when I still had the CTSV Wagon, I would get into the E90 M3 and almost put my foot through the floorboard. That POS E90 M3 clutch was horrid.

Not sure if I can adequately articulate this, but on my E92 M3 now sometimes the shifter just does not want to easily go into first gear. It just says no and makes me wait a moment. No grinding sounds, and the clutch is fully depressed. One of my friends told me it's common so I have just lived with it. Does the F82 do the same thing or is this totally common behavior across all manuals?

That clutch is on par with the super overassisted Turbo clutch in both 996 and 997. Which is to say that it sucks.
