I think I understood your issue...

Look at the 2 screenshots attached and hopefully the issue is clear. You are looking at an incorrect entry.

Search for HMI_ID_VERSION and not HMI_VERSION

Not currently from my vantage point. Waiting on a Russian vendor with an apparent capability to sell me an FSC pack to get back to my PM.

Seems like the DB is dropping off much more frequently than normal. (sad that there's a normal level of db issues, right?)

As a forum noob I ask, is there a better community forum for M enthusiasts? I've very much enjoyed my time reading Bimmerpost and occasionally contributing and look forward to many more contributions after my F80 arrives in a week.

Just stumbling across this iDrive 6, as I and I assume many others, didn't even realize there was an update post 5.

I'm curious, it sounds like a few people are playing with a test/light/beta version of 6. Is it expected that it will ultimately roll out as an update for iDrive 5 users?

I believe forum rules prohibit an explicit answer.

That said, there are many, and a couple in particular that better serve the coding community, not only because mods are rational, but because of the quality and quantity of contributions surrounding more technical topics.

You'll find the same familiar handles out there beyond this fence.

It's neither a test nor a beta version. It's already built-in to the ECU, so it's a shipped version fully-tested by BMW.

I think it's "light" because the "full" version uses gestures and touchscreen, and our cars don't have the hardware for that.

I doubt it. The next cars will ship with iDrive 6 turned on, I'll wager using the same ECU.

Does BMW ever do interface updates on existing cars?

Mine is a year old and it's two versions back on idrive...
The fact that the thread starter is on a newer version shows the hardware can handle it. Again, buy a new car every year just for software upgrades...

The thread starter (and you) are on different hardware, or at least ECU's that were shipped with significantly different firmware, and if you'll note his hardware is not really "handling it" all that well as a number of central features aren't working for him. He's had to flash his ECU with new firmware, etc., not just flip a bit. He's referring to his HU as "sacrificial" for that reason.

By the time my car is a year old, BMW will have newer (by, I'm guessing, about a year) and cooler stuff out that I won't be able to have.
