Do people use the parking brake with DCT?

Just got the car and was wondering if people with the DCT use the parking brake? During the test drive the sales guy said to use the parking brake but I’ve noticed the other day on my slightly slanted driveway that my car wasn’t rolling away without the parking brake engaged. I haven’t really used the parking brake in my other automatic cars or with the Audi dsg/dct transmissions, but they have a normal parking gear selector.

I always do, I'm not sure what the car is held by when just using P with a DCT box and I'd hate to come back and find that it had moved.

Shouldn't need to use it but I developed a habit of using it.

I'd rather put the pressure of the vehicle weight on the parking brake than on the transmission.

Just saying.

And I don't let go of the brake until I already have the parking brake engaged so that it rests completely on the brake.

Rarely use the parking brake (I turn off the car while in gear in order to set the vehicle in park). I only use the parking brake when parked on an incline.

If the transmission breaks, warranty coverage will resolve the issue.

That's a silly way of looking at it... why would you want to possibly go thru the hassle of bringing the car in for service and be without the car ...

You should always use the breaking brake. Less torque and stress on the transmission. At least that's what my Dad always told me when I was a kid.

Why do you think the parking brake is there ? To be used when you park the car , as simple as that

I know the warranty will cover any transmission issues but I really miss the car when I don’t have it.

Always.

Never stress a car unnecessarily if you don't need to. They should teach you this when you buy the F8x. M-DCT acts differently, don't treat it like an auto.

Always use your parking brake.

When you guys idle in a parking lot but want to leave the engine on, do you put the car in N and pull the e brake or leave it in D and pull the e brake?

If I am in a parking lot idle I don’t see a need to leave it in drive .If I’m waiting in a parking space idle I’m not going to need to hit the gas for any reason so better just go neutral. In a lot just idle and not in a space I will leave it in drive as I might need to drop the brake and hit the gas in an emergency such as a driver about to run into me .

Oddly enough, the M specialist and Geniuses at my dealer told me to avoid using the parking brake, when possible.
