Yes. It takes anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks longer. It depends on the model, color, factory and where your car falls in line for production.

If you want to keep the car long term - 3-4 weeks extra wait time to get what you really want (and personalized for you) it is easily worth the wait.

I ordered my car back at the end of October and it just departed the port on the Oregon Highway on 02/15. I am picking up my car on 03/06/15. Couldn't be more excited!

How long from the start of placing an ED order + individual paint (an older M color) would it take before one can take ED?

A lot of variables play into this. Typically the quote is 6-8 weeks once your order is accepted by BMW. Individual orders add 3-4 weeks on to this. ED can change your timeframe only in the sense they have to build in enough time to guaranty your car for completion when your ED is scheduled. That typically means they give you another couple of weeks buffer. Honestly I would put it around 12 weeks from the time your order is accepted by BMW Individual if that is your plan.

Keep in mind your dealer has to have allocations available for your order, the store has to approve it, then BMW Individual has to approve it. If you're going to do it, the time is good now, or wait 60 days and maybe lock into a 2016 model.

This - I gave 4 months lead time for "catalog individual" when there were only 40+ allocations in the US, and it took about 12 weeks.

Awesome! Thanks Chris. I was waiting for the 2016 MY orders to open up and was aiming for a late September ED. Sounds like it will work.

I think at this point you'd only have to wait a little longer and just lock in for a MY16 car. Seems like a smart move at this point.

OP, or biglare wondering if you or anybody else would know:

Looks like bradb1us paid both the development cost and the Individual config cost for Grigio Telesto... just wondering, if one of us orders Grigio Telesto in the future will we only have to pay the Individual config cost (i,e., $5k)?

I love this color and am thinking of stealing it for my next M4 Sorry bradb1us but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Since BMW now has the color in its developed colors list you will only have to pay the $5k (usd) individual cost. Hope this helps.

Can anyone confirm that once your individual color is approved that you can no longer change your order spec?

That's what I'm hearing from my CA, and having thoughts to change some things.

It depends what your car's status is at during the build phase as to whether certain changes can be made. The paint is one of the first things that is scheduled, so I would act fast if you want to change the paint. Again, your CA should be able to confirm with Individual NA group.

Larry, thanks for the info on my question on changing an individual order after acceptance by AG.

On this topic, though, I think an F10 M5 was done in Grigio Telesto - read that in a reply dealing with this car where per the owner there were no other M3's but an M5 done in the color. Shouldn't he then have gotten the Grigio Telesto for only $5,000? I think for any out of range colors BMW can and will charge over the 5K individual cost - unless someone can certify otherwise.

Anyone knows how much will be the 4 frozen colors listed before? 1950 or 5000?

Also how long will this delay the MY2016 ED time from the order date?

Trying to picture a frozen brilliant white M4 with cohiba brown interior in my mind.

Thanks.

If someone paid the developmental cost for an Individual color on an M3 or M4, then anyone ordering that same Individual color for their M3 or M4 should not incur the developmental costs. My guess is that the Individual color had been done on an M5, so there is still a developmental cost for the color on the M3 or M4.

You will have to contact someone at BMW Individual to be 100% sure which colors are approved and how much they cost for the model that you are wanting.

I am in 112 status now and I want to add executive pkg. The only individual part is yellow stitching. Since the Exec pkg requires a different dash, I am not sure if they can add it or not. I guess I'm not sure if they have already finished the interior of the car with yellow stitching even though the car is not in production yet. If not, then I should be able to add the Exec pkg, no?

It may be too late as they have the interior pieces ready to install as your car moves down the production line, however it is only in status 112. You should have your CA find out if it's too late for changes ASAP for you to be sure.
