I was 22 when I got my F80, but that's not really relevant. Age has very little to do with your ability to afford the car. Only you can truly know if you can afford the payments on a car like the M3/4.

I will turn 33 the day before my ED. It is all relative to your financial plan (or lack thereof)... I own a IT consulting company and still feel a little guilty throwing down this much on a depreciating asset. Life is all about balance though, so regardless of your decision- best of luck!

I'm 21 as well.. My parents got me 2011 335xi back in 2010. 5 years later, I'm on a full scholarship in a 6 year pharmacy school (2 years left) and I live at home and work part time as a pharmacy intern. Yeah it's probably not wise to use my $2500/month paycheck on a $1000 car payment...but yolo. I think it completely depends on the situation. If you don't have to stretch, then go for it.
As it is, still haven't decided on a M4 or a Cayman GTS lol. |

24, placed an order 2 days ago for ED in May, graduating in May with a guaranteed 6 figure salary. I've always dreamt of an M but if I wasn't making at least 6 figures I could never pull the trigger.

honestly this is a car forum, get it if you can afford it. I don't care if your parents paid it or you are just independently wealthy. most of us just come here to discuss about the cars and our ED. go to a Reddit financial self forum if you want honest advice. come here if you want to talk about your M3 once you get it.

Then again, I'm in my mid-40s and probably make less than 50-66% of the people here. Maybe I could stand to visit that subreddit. |

21 when I got my first M, but it was a used M Roadster, paid $32,000 with tax (number will always be stuck in my head), was a measly assistant manager at Walgreens, living with parents at the time, haha, chicks loved that car!
Now I am 35, and thinking of my first "new" M, I think others are right there are many more important priorities before spending $75k on a car, but I guess it all depends on your life goals, for me it was 1) finish school 2) Pay off debt 3) get married and have kids 4) buy a house I could live in until retirement 5) build up 401K to a good level 5) buy my "dream" car (dream as in what I can comfortably afford without effecting the rest of my families lifestyle). But I won't lie I had some nice cars along the way just never spent over $55K for them. |

I'm 22 right now but I'm planning on putting in the order for my M4 for my birthday here in 2 weeks. I graduated from a one of the military academy's back in June 2014 with an engineering degree and currently making $80k/ year which is going to go up soon hopefully.
I have no student loans since my schooling was all paid for so I have no doubt in my mind that I can pay the car off in 5 years since right now I'm not paying for much. I've been dreaming about an M car for as long as I can remember and at this point I'm not willing to let it go and I figure if I don't get it now I'll never be able to afford it lol |

Sure, your incurred debt is low right now, but that doesn't necessarily equate to affordability. Think ahead though.....think of if you want to buy a home, get married, ect ect ect. Many people, myself included, get a nicer car when they are young (mine wasn't a 70K sports saloon, however) and have little debt....but then life creeps up and you make changes to what's important. I "graduated" to family sedans and SUV's......and now I *can* afford an M3 again. Why, if you dont buy it now, will you no longer be able to get it later? Hopefully, with good planning, "later" you'll be in a much better financial position than you are now

Hahaha...there's all sorts of retarded in this thread. That much is certain. Can't even imagine asking my parents to help me out with a car at 21 much less any other time in my life. Not because they couldn't afford it but because I was always taught to be my own man. Sorry if harsh, but just bc your parents can afford it doesn't mean that you should make them help you with it / buy it for you...how about earning it for yourself and, in the meantime, making sure you're making sound financial decisions
