Experience with BMW Genius for Order Info over the phone?

I gotta say these "geniuses" are pretty dumb. They said my car order was received yesterday by the factory - despite the status stating this for 2 weeks, now. When I contradicted his statement, he was a bit dumbfounded and immediately deferred to the dealer saying the genius updates may be outdated or incorrect relative to the dealer - no shit.

It seems the regular 1800 BMW USA number with the automated system is better at giving real time updates.

Why even bother with the "geniuses"? You have an 800 number for tracking info, and a forum full of geniuses here that without a doubt can answer your questions better than he can. Don't give the kid a hard time... he can only relay to you what is on his screen.

True - that's who told me when the EPA mileage information came out that the DCT had the higher rating(later retracted when I called them on it).

Hey, I'm a Certified BMW Genius and wanted to know how you made out with the car you ordered. Were there any other issues and did you deal with your Genius anymore after that? I'm curious because All BMW dealerships use the Genius in different ways. We can create the car you want but don't actually handle ordering it. Geniuses are generally there to find the car you're looking for, to explain all the benefits and features and so the customer can find a car in pressure free and friendly environment. The best way to track your order is probably the 800 number. But if you have any questions about the car when you pick it up and anytime after, us geniuses can tell you anything you need to know.

I've found the M Genius's to be enthusiasts and I just leave it at that.

I really don't look to them for any sort of extreme insider info......but i'll tell you that I certainly enjoy chatting with them when I visit the dealership. They have more knowledge than the standard CA, tend to keep up on the news, visit forums like these, ect....

The key is your expectations. If you're expecting them to be Franciscus van Meel or Albert Biermann then yeah, you will be sorely disappointed...lol.

But to me, they're just good, friendly, more knowledeable people to talk to.

Geniuses aren't really trained to be involved in the whole ordering/production process. It's not part of their training from BMW. Anything they're doing at your dealership involving that they either learned on their own or were taught to do by their dealership.

Not all Geniuses are "dumb".
