I'll leave it for now, but I would love to get a second set of eyes on it. Can you ask your sales associate to check PKoD and confirm that it absolutely does not mention the M4s anywhere, contrary to what Ghetto2315 reported?

Tell your CA to check PKoD. The first bulletin dated 02/09/2015 clearly states for M3 and M4. Furthermore, tell him to click on tabs "Vehicles -> M Models -> M4 Coupe (F82) and M4 Convertible (F83)" and your CA will see the same message.

As what GOLFFRR and I have been stating, we can only go by what BMW NA outlines for us dealers on a day-to-day basis. As of today, 02/10/15 at 4:07-PM EST, I still see that message. However, that does not mean BMW NA could withdraw this bulletin in the near future.

And since we are on the topic of bulletins for the F8X, I also noticed on PKoD for the M4 Convertible (F83), the message says:

"UPDATE 10/20/2014:

Executive Package (ZEC)
•Comfort Access: the roof and windows can no longer be closed using the door handles due to safety concerns. On all July onward production cars, the roof can only be operated via the dedicated switch in the car or using the keyfob on vehicles equipped with Comfort Access (Premium Package)."

EDIT: vonmayr, I can perhaps see why your CA says it is only for the M3 and not the M4. If I go in to DCS and enter an order for an M4 (both F82 and F83), it still shows B50 Sakhir Orange as an available color while entering an order for an M3 it does not. I suspect that if a dealer orders a M4 in Sakhir Orange, it would be kicked back at some point if the bulletin in PKod holds true.

EDIT 2: FWIW, I am in NJ. At times, these bulletins are subject to specific regions. Although a possibility but highly unlikely, perhaps what I am seeing will not be the same as what my fellow dealership personnel are seeing down South, Central, Midwest or West Coast. But again, I highly doubt it.

Ok so what are the replacing that with? Seems quite unfair that you'll have to go individual if you want a red shade and don't wanna wait till July to place the order.

Maybe an actual pallette of colors instead of the current sparse choices. That is about the only thing I am disappointed with the F8x M cars. BMW has reduced the pallette to almost nothing and I find it limiting and somewhat greedy that they have an upcharge for former M colors.

I am not sure who and when I heard it but I recall that Frozen colors will be introduced for MY16 F8X. Don't quote me as a legit source as this is hearsay for now.

If I find out any more about this Sakhir Orange bulletin, or colors in general, you know I'll let you guys know.

My CA called BMW NA to get the information. He also pulled up the bulletin, which while it has the F82 and F83 in the title, but he states that it only shows the F80 in the bulletin itself. Additionally, as you suggested in the edit above, he was able to build F82 and F83 with SO as a color choice, but not F80. Dunno what more to say, since he is in the same region you are. I'm not sure what is going on but wanted to add what he followed up with me about.

Thanks, Ghetto2315, appreciate the updates. Very disappointing news, like others on the thread, I was planning an F80 in SO on the ED program this fall. The other color choices are just not interesting enough to pursue, so will wait and see how this unfolds, and if additional colors are added. This issue was handled amateurishly by BMW.

My biggest complaint about F8x has been the color choices. Of the unconventional choices (YMB, AY, and SO), I thought SO was the best. Disappointing for all those looking to get that color.

Any issues with the paint? Maybe Factory issues with just this shade and just at this factory? Seems logical (if in fact it is only the M3).

The S/O paint is very "thin". I collected a decent amount of rock chips my first month of ownership. I feel that the e92 had much better paint quality than the m4.

This seems to be a common complaint regardless of color. These water-based paints are what they are. Someone that took the tour said the entire painting process took a matter of just a few minutes. Mass production at its best!

I took the tour at Welt and came away very impressed with the procedure. The paining area is a big part of the factory tour, I'd say it's 35% of the visit. They are very proud of their painting methods and highlight them whenever possible. That being said, I too have noticed a few rock chips on the front bumper. Not sure if it's due to the paint or my habit of getting speedy on a certain road near my house that will remain unnamed. What bothers me more are the swirl marks after being very cautious washing the car. Not sure if it was me or done by the BMW guys when they cleaned the car after a service and warranty job. I'm not thrilled with the paint, but don't really have much to compare it to.

PLEASE KILL SAKHIR ORANGE! Its horrible. You'll hate it. Don't order it. I get laughed at every day. You look like a pumpkin was used to commit a murder. It's a nasty color. Stay away. Be Classy. Don't make my mistake.

I love it.

Actually, it's because BMW wants to save money.

E46 M3 paint is in the low 5 on some spots and average high 4 mils.

By the time E90 rolls around, you are looking at very low 4 mils.

Essentially, BMW keeps tweaking their painter robot to see how thin they can paint the car.

Budget cars of today are in the high 3 mils and very very low 4 mils, FWIW.

Gone are the days of nice and thick paint of E36 and E46.

All this to save not even half a can of paint per car.

I just metered the M4 in my showroom and it came back consistently at 4.5. Every car won't be the same though but I'm just glad I didn't meter a 3-3.5 lol

Of course they do. That's exactly what I meant by "mass production". That half a can times x number of cars over the year = significant numbers. Gotta make the shareholders happy!!

4.5 is not bad, that's about what most of my E90 panels were, though some spots were 3.8 or so. And this car literally rolled right off the truck when I went to pick it up.

Gone are the days of E36 and E39 thickness. Remember back when BMW proudly had brochures showing how thick their paint was?
