How many M3's built per day?
I was wondering how many they build/day and if they build them together with the M4's. I also wonder if the VIN's are consecutive or do they jump i.e if last 3 digits are 250 and I am 300 does that mean that there are 50 M3's left to make or do they mix all their models using a first come first serve VIN?
I was just curious. |

When I was stalking my M3 while it was in production, based on the sequential VIN's it seemed like it was around 80-85 per day. About 48 weeks of production which would be around 20,400 M3/M4 per year. Seems about right, unless someone else knows better.

I think you are on the right track. We recently heard from BMW that they had sold 68,000 F8x M3/M4 (as of some unspecified date, but in the recent past anyway), and given that production started in early 2014, it adds up.

I checked last night and based on sequential numbers, they stopped at #290 and today they stopped at #302 so take that for what it's worth. Again, I only used numbers that were close to mine since I wanted to know when my order was going to be completed (maybe my numbers were only for the M3 and didn't count the M4's which have higher volume numbers).

So as my car finished production today I saw that there are VIN’s that were still not completed that were ahead of my number so I guess those were the more complicated or specialized builds that take longer to build.

So the VIN's in build skip ahead over those Also, the date for your VIN is not the completion date, but the date the VIN was stamped on the body going into final assembly. So its actual completion could be 1 or 2 days later You can see this when comparing the VIN date with the actual Bodyshop, Paint shop and final assembly dates on the dealers system.
