Ontario, front plate alternatives?

Hi just looking for feedback on your experience with not having a front plate mounted on your Ontario car. The car looks sooo much better without it.

I know folks that have gone years and no ticket then I have heard others that get ticketed right away.

Any other good mounts or options that is a no drill solution? Thanks.

Here's what works in the states....

Buy a tow hitch mount, put the plate on the mount, but dont mount it in. If you get pulled over, have an "oh shit moment', show the cop the plate on the mount and say that you took it off for the car wash and forgot to put back on... Works pretty well actually...

I went with Sto N Sho mount for my m, very satisfied, has a quick release and mounts in the middle of the bumper (I hate the offset plate mounts).

Hope it helps.

May only work if your car looks clean though. Wonder what one could say if the car is filthy?

Not sure about the rest of Canada, but this will not work in Toronto, based on my experience.

I'd told my dealer not to drill and put on the front plate as I had a tow hook mount, which on delivery day I forgot to bring with me. Not exaggerating in the least, but I was pulled over literally on my way home from the dealership.

The officer believed me when I told him that I'd just picked up the car an hour ago, and let me off with a warning. But he was careful to point out that the warning had been registered in their system, and if I get caught again there would be a ticket involved.

Yeah, installing the tow hook plate was the first thing I did the next morning.

But same as you, I know other folks who have run with a front plate for a long time with no issue, so ymmv

Years ago when I tried no plates at the front, I was pulled over and given a warning. I wouldn't chance it.

I just ordered this kit as well. I did a ton of research and found this to be the best option based on feedback and photo's/videos. Here is the link to the actual model for our specific car:

If you check out their website they have kits for different model cars. I think the M5 might have its own kit. Check the site, I am sure he has one available for you.

These tow hook type plate mounts will expose the innards of to the harsh Canadian winters. Have you notice any rusting issue?

I've had them on previous cars and never had any issues. Not expecting any rusting with my current car. Of my friends who run similar tow hook mounts, I don't think any of them have had any rust either...

Are you concerned because you've experienced this before?

Yes, that Sto n Show looks pretty nice. I like that when you take the plate off the mechanism on the car is totally invisible...not so with the tow hook mount.

Ive never run a plate. I seem to get pulled over in the spring, like April/May every year.

This yea rI got pulled over 4 times in 3 weeks, so I ordered a motorized plate bracket. Never did end up installing it before selling the car.

I went this route as I dont like the tow hook off center look, nor the one above that drills from the bottom. Reality is, who cares where the holes are if theres always a plate on there? Why not just use the oem bracket if you're keeping a plate on? I like the look of no plate, so the thought process was to be able to put it up when I dont want to deal with the hassle, and down like 95% of the time

If anyones interested, Id likely sell it if you pay what I paid for it. Otherwise I'll keep it for a future car.
