Diminished Value Claim

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I'm not new to a DV claim, but I am new to a DV claim on a limited production, collector vehicle like the GTS.

I'll share further details after my case is closed...

In the meantime, I'm curious if anyone has experience claiming DV on a limited production car. Thx in advance!

No accident involved...just paint damage due to ignorance on behalf of the at-fault party.

This better not be another paint protection film install gone bad... I had a bad experience and Don't want to see this happen to someone else. Best of luck to you.

Not that either...basically polished the matte off. I think I posted a "how to fix" thread, but this thread is more around DV for a limited production car like the GTS.

Did you file a Diminished Value claim?

you sure have really bad luck with the GTS, the wheels and now this...

someone polished on the frozen paint? WTF?

it wasn't on my GTS and really no such thing in Canada. Wasn't worth the hassle.

With such a limited production vehicle like yours, maybe the VDC could step in and assist with blending/shading etc etc? They have probably fixed a few cars that have been delivered to owners without them knowing already.

After my VDC tour, I'm confident they can fix anything to "like new" status!

Entire car will need re paint or at least a re clear. This can't be blended to match panels. The clear coat is what provides the frozen effect so your base paint will not be harmed at this point. Sorry to hear this.

Basically what the one body shop in my area that is willing to touch the car told me.

They will strip the matte clear and respray; hoping not to have to repaint. But no guarantees they tell me.

Are they BMW certified and trained for frozen paint? If so you will be ok. Get as much of the car stripped as you can( lights, trim ect.)

Trade?

Don't get me wrong, love the color, but the added anxiety is not doing me any good. Going to wrap the whole car. So far I've done the front end and rockers and I couldn't be more pleased.

hmmm.. i wouldnt want to paint that unless it really needs it. repairing the substrate is doable depending on the damage. contact BMWNA body and paint and have them direct you to their paint tech. they will be able to point you in the right direction.

you can repaint and match matte paint, just need a shop who specializes in it.

No dude. It's a special car. If there is no need to disturb the original paint substrate, DONT paint it. A reputable shop that can paint it will give you the best advice and in this case, if I was advising one of my clients, I wouldn't paint this car unless absolutely necessary. Bmwna has a field rep that can look at the car. Contacting them is the best thing especially when a car of this grade is involved. Bmws have a 10 mils of material on them from factory. Adding an additional topcoat will change the way the car ages and thus will diminish its purported value over time.

cannot agree more. a repaint will never ever be the same as the factory finish.

It is what I do for a living I couldn't agree more. Adding topcoats especially on adjacent blend panels only distorts the color over time and never ages the same. The naked eye won't see this for a while. But it's there. The clears used in the field are nowhere near the hardness levels of factory applied clears and will chip differently than oe finishes.
