Owners ---- help! Have you heard this?

So I've a little over 1000km on my M3 and today on four separate occasions (2 times on my way back to work from lunch, 2 times on the way home from work) I heard this very loud screech/grind noise coming from the back right side of my car. It was not the screech from a tire. I wasn't driving fast or hard. Prolly only going between 30-50kph (20-30mph). Every time the sound came, it only happened for about 1 second. Not a long time at all but loud and definitely noticeable.

I tried to recreate the sound by driving slowly, accelerating, braking, and cornering at different speeds. I can't make it happen -- just does it on its own. I thought at first maybe a rock got caught somewhere it shouldn't have but not sure.

Has anyone else heard this? Anyone have any thoughts? I'm calling the dealer in the morning, nobody will be there right now.

That was what my rear diff sounded like when it went belly up. Get it checked out.

You could pull that wheel off and look carefully for a rock. Usually will get hung up somewhere near the brake caliper. If you don't see anything obvious take it to the dealership, heard of some rear diffs going bad.

This does not make my stomach feel good. Luckily I live in Germany....if the have to replace it then it shouldn't take long. Was yours ever making the noise longer than a second?
