Manual transmission

I spotted a fellow Sakhir orange M4 in Brighton yesterday and on closer inspection saw it was a manual. Another bing!

I chose manual as I enjoy the extra effort and skill needed to smoothly drive, moreso when tootling around than when really spanking it on a good road or on the track. If it were just for track, I'd have chosen the DCT.

Anyway, what transmission did you all choose and why? Are there many manuals amongst us?

Here are my last two cars: 1M and M4.

DCT.. i just felt it suits my current role of m3 as a dd more. I will get a manual down the track but in something less powerful and complex like a 981 Cayman or even a hot hatch.. will be a interesting shop around.
Kudos to all mt owners here , big respect.
Did bmw bring any manuals on the f m5/6 platform ?

6-speed all the way. It has become very rare to find a high-performance sedan with a manual transmission (essentially a unicorn). Perhaps the G series M3 will be the final one.

Not one from an Australian perspective though. We have a low % manual and high % M-car take-up here.

I'm upgrading from my 2014 DCT m4 into a new manual m4 which is due to arrive in May. I missed having a manual car and I no longer have a daily commute for work so I decided to make the switch!

I was having a very hard time in deciding on my M-Car in Sept last year.

I was hell bent on ordering a Yas Marina Manual M3 from factory, but when the salesman managed to find the last new & unallocated 30 Jahre M3 with DCT, I had to change my mind and go for that.

I don't regret the DCT as it is sooooo much mre capable than I am....Also I have my manual Alfa 156 GTA to row the gears with, should I miss it (MT).

the missus didn't want a manual

i do miss driving manual
my last car was an mx5, white, soft top, manual

but having said that, i don't think i would have got the m3 in manual even if i had the choice, i don't think it suits the car

e46 i'd get manual

but this is just my opinion, whatever makes you happy with no regrets

The lack of a current car in manual is what really pushed me over the edge and order the manual. As long as you have a go to car to scratch the manual itch when it appears than you're all good!

I have a manual, 2016 M3, in Sydney

There are times when i love it and times i hate it...truly 50/50 whether i'd get manual again, if it's offered for the M3 in the future.

I think it's really important to test drive the setup you will buy. Unfortunately, not many in Aus are ordering manuals, so i could only test the DCT.

Next time, if i can't test it in the same spec, i probably wouldn't go for it.

I find the shift is too long and the clutch point a tad too high. There are short shift kits out there i might try though, if i could find reviews that people were happy with the results.

I drove autos for over 10 years and happy to make the switch back to 6MT with the purchase of the M3

Dream car with dream transmission... waited 20 years to make this come true

i chose dct because it's a daily,

when i read BMW F80 builds were coming to an end, i thought about doing another build in manual, so went on the hunt for a manual used/demo to drive

i wasn't vibing it, mainly because i didn't feel the actual manual engagement was nice to use, the throw was long and rubbery, the gates not well defined, it just didn't have the kind of mechanical feel i was hoping for (compared to other manual cars i have/had)

i also didn't feel the manual box suited such a large car, all that leather and tech, the M3/4 when driving to/from work feels like a luxury sedan more than an all out sports car - it would make more sense in a smaller car like the M2 imo

My gf recently bought an abarth 124 - that's where I've been getting my cheap manual thrills, that short throw mx5 box is a joy to use, I can go through the gears with a good dose of throttle/revs and still be within reason of speed limit

Can anyone enlighten me of any inherent DCT issues to watch for?
