Nice! I'm really interested in this! Would love to see reviews before purchase.

Per Businesswire....

The new ANDRO 10.3-inch anti-glare screen, which meets all BMW OEM quality requirements, is compatible with BMW 1/2/3/4 series models manufactured since 2013, as well as the new X1, which was introduced last year. It is specifically designed to replace older 6.5-inch legacy screens.

"This advanced, Android touch screen goes beyond industry standards by allowing the driver to connect to online music applications such as Apple Music and Spotify, as well as navigation systems such as Waze, among others, which can be downloaded anywhere,” notes SDS Vice- president Amir Weizer. “The screen affords a driving experience comparable to those featured by other leading luxury cars, such as Tesla, and, via its built-in USB port, can be connected to external devices that employ HD or other video formats,” Weizer adds. “And for BMW owners, what’s particularly important is that its installation does not compromise the car warranty in any way."

The new screen is fully integrated with iDrive, BMW’s computer system that controls most secondary vehicular functions. It can also be retrofitted to connect to a rear-view camera, and because it supports BMW’s Park Assist System (PAS), it provides a more expansive view when the driver is in the process of reverse parallel parking. The screen, moreover, features a new NBT EVO user interface, enabling effortless installation and operation.

Available beginning on August 10, the screen may be purchased on BMW dealer websites, from automobile leasing companies and dealerships. It is priced at $955, payable in four convenient payments. Installation, which takes about 20 minutes and can take place either at any BMW dealership or at the customer’s residence, will cost $125.

That looks like any of the tens of Chinese 10.25" Android screens for BMWs on eBay. One thing that all those screens miss is not having support for NBT Evo units (MY2016 - on). Otherwise, they all look great as an upgrade of 8.8" and 6.6" OEM screens regardless of the Android features.

This has actually been out for a while, or at least a very similar device with similar functionality, and has been discussed in the F30 forums. It is sold by Avin USA:

https://avinusa.com/bmw-3-series-f30...on-system.html

I looked at this for another project that I am working on. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with ID5/ID6 hardware and software (yet) when I reached out to them with a few questions. For those of you with ID4, it should work though.

If the device mentioned above is actually sanctioned by BMW, it might work with the latest ID5/ID6 hardware/software. Of course, you will pay the BMW "Tax" for it compared to the unit I posted above (which is still not cheap either).

The NBT Evo (APIX2) can be coded to work with these APIX (CIC/NBT) displays.

Out of curiosity, how would one do that (I know how to code, but don't know the parameter(s) to change)? And did you do that to make this work with your car?

Which ECU, NBT2? Did you do this or get this coding from someone else?

Interesting.... I am wondering if I should just wait until Avin or other vendors with similar products develop compatibility with NBT Evo hardware found in 2017+ models.

Did your brother lose any ID5 functionality after the coding to make this unit work? I like the functionality this screen brings, but I don't want to lose any ID5 functionality either.

Nothing is supposed to change in ID5/ID6 other than a bigger display with this hardware/coding mod.

This regulator/coding change will work with any APIX1 display -including Avin.

Fair enough, and thanks for the info. I don't suppose you could verify that nothing changed in the ID5 functionality with your brother's M3. I also have a '17 M3 but I don't want to drop $700 on this (plus installing it) if I am going to lose any ID5 functionality. If there is something that is lost, I could probably live with it depending on what it is, but I would rather know that going into the purchase....

Also, it would be great to know if there are firmware updates for this unit available if/when it becomes compatible with ID5 hardware without any additional coding.

The 10.25" display that we installed was OEM from an F15.

The Avin 10.25" display is a piggyback, it does nothing to the NBT_Evo unit other than interrupting its video out. The OEM display is selectable, that's where the regulator/coding is required.

Ahh, I see.... Sounds like it should work based on what you said. I don't suppose you have any confirmation that this did actually work with the Avin unit?

For the NBT_Evo to display in the Avin 10.25" unit it must be 9V power voltage and APIX1 as in the NBT and CIC -the units which are compatible with this unit. It is technically obvious, right?

You need to come up with your own test. That's the only way to confirm something.

This is good info. Hopefully the vendors who sell these screens and/or iDrive interface modules, like Avin or BimmerTech, are working on a plug-n-play solution for NBT Evo units as that is the current iDrive hardware that BMW is putting out now (I am sure they are and it is just a matter of time...). The OEM implementation seems promising, but it is always nice to have alternatives.

Using a 12v to 9v "buck" converter and the coding to make this screen work seems pretty straight forward and I could do that, as I have done stuff like that on previous cars (I just took a peek at the coding parameters you mentioned above and found some interesting stuff in that NBT ECU above and beyond what you posted). But admittedly, I really don't want to experiment too much or hack into the harness of this car (other than a little bit of easy coding) - the car is too new and I would prefer a plug-n-play solution for right now . I have a unique implementation that I want to accomplish, but I can wait until the hardware to support it has matured a bit..... .

Encanto, did you custom make a APIX1/APIX2 cable for that F15 retrofit or buy one? If you bought it, where did you get it?

We bought a new OEM HSD cable at our local dealership and added the regulator to it. The OEM HSD cable in the car is still in there for easy swap back to stock.

You can ask these guys if they have it available as a complete solution as well: http://carsystems.com.ua/bmw-product...erter-cable-en

I found that company when doing a search for a pre-configured cable for this install. I quick Google search of the lone US distributor did not yield promising results (a vitamin company came up ). I may just contact this company directly as they seem like the only company that makes such a cable. Although I could do what you did as that replacement APIX cable is not that expensive (and neither is a 12v to 9v converter).

Do you remember which 12v to 9v converter you used? My initial research on those is that while a relatively simple circuit, not all are created equal and the cheap ones can fail prematurely....
