They eventually fail but you'll know in advance if one is about to go. There's enough redundancy on the talon with 3 cups, hell, it would hold fine with just one. I believe the kit still ships with a spare too.

I sometimes mount mine like that, or I go all the way back in the other direction. Looks badass either way.

One time I had my front like yours, a mix of roof and my windshield cracked on the highway. Not sure if that's why, but it was the only time I did it like that and it bit me. Your miles may vary, just figured I'd throw out the caution.

ive tried positioning it so all 3 pods are on the roof, but the crease comes into play.

will keep playing around with it and see if mounting it all the way back is an option. it's good to know your experience, as im on windshield #3 so far and while the deductible isnt huge, does get annoying

Hey guys that have the seasucker, Do you feel like the suction cups mar the clear coat at all?
Also for people that have sunroofs, do you feel confident enough to put the seasucker on the sunroof?

I have a sunroof on my F80 and a mini - bomber sea sucker. The bikes that I mounted once is an S works Specialized Fatboy (with a Bluto fork so it makes it about 28 lbs) I am too scared to mount it again because I am afraid of scratching the paint, breaking the sunroof or denting the roof?

Any problems I listed above?

I use the sea sucker multiple times per week and in all kinds of weather. I have not noticed any damage on my carbon roof. I have an S-Works Tarmac so it's pretty light and I clean the roof with detail spray before before putting the rack on the car. I also keep the suction cups clean.

I've also attached the sea sucker to a loaner car with a sunroof. I would tell you that the sunroof and aluminum roof are even more stable than the carbon roof which does have a little flex to it.

Hope this helps.

Yes that is a big help thank you! I think I'm just being a little too overprotective lol. Which rack do you have, Talon?

I noticed most of you mount offset to the center, are you able to mount the bike so it's not leaning in one direction due to the curvature of the roof? I admittedly haven't played with my Talon too much yet, but I haven't quite gotten the bike perfectly perpendicular to the ground. Or perhaps, I'm worrying about it too much.

Anyone use this mount longish term for a 29" full suspension MTB? Any issues?

I've got a Niner RIP9 that weighs about 29lbs to 30lbs with a Rockshok Pike thru axle front.

I assume that u know that if u have the sunroof u can use a traditional mount bar rack for added stability and no paint contact.

Yes, unless you take the precaution of using a strap to prevent that.

Don't you guys that have this kind of money to spend on a car, be able to afford a second car for bikes?
Exactly, I'd never do this.

Curious on how you would use the factory mount on carbon roof since there are no holes for bolts to go in? What does this retrofit entail? Drilling into the Carbon Fiber? Sounds like a bad idea too.

I've had one of these since 2012. I used it regularly up until 2 years ago. I never had any problems. The cups are pretty strong. I used it to carry my 30 pound mountain bike on top of my Infiniti G35 Coupe without issue. I haven't used it on the M yet.

Really appreciate the tip and this thread. Seasucker worked great on our first highway/longer (3+ hour) ride. No issues at all!

2100 miles from nyc to Tennessee with about 80lbs of stuff in the roof box. Zero issues. Most of the highway time spent above 80, and more than a few stints to triple digits.

I will be doing this for my golf/bike trip to Bend/Bandon first week of June with my OG F87 M2. Nice to see a bunch of folks already using this system.

Just curious more or less....why would you guys chose the Seasucker system when you can easily install a traditional system on the carbon roof and it's way better piece of mind?

Is it for the "cool" factor to have huge suction cups????

I recently installed the OEM BMW roof rack system on my Carbon Roof in plans to use a Thule box for car shows, it's a pretty wicked setup with the wrap but the end result is a solid box on the roof bolted safely.

I've seen Seasucker systems used on mostly exotics. A friend asked me if I was going to do this on the NSX or F-car but I would honestly be scared to trust suction cups, never mind the risk of damaging your own car but if that flies of on the highway you could cause a freeway pileup?

this is my setup now:

My roof bar setup, all wrapped in matching CF ready for the box:

Thule Box wrap almost done:
