Coilovers Spring rate
So I bought a set of coilovers used
And I found out it has 16/24k spring rate And the shop says it's too much ! What do you guys think ? Will it be worth changing the springs and lower the rate ? Or just leave it as it is ? I am planning to go no finger gap on the front but not super slammed Thanks in advance ! |

16/24 kg/mm = 896/1363 lbf/in - those are definitely on the high side of dedicated track spring rates! What brand are the dampers? If you're doing most of your driving on the street then 400/700 lbf/in is a good setup. Anything higher really depends on the dampers you're using. I'm running MCS 2WR dampers with 600/900 lbf/in rates but I would not run 896/1363 lbf/in even on track. I'd listen to your shop.

If mine are 600 /1000 and I did another M4 with true coilovers on rear, would I want 600 / 600 to match the 600 / 1000 of the separate rear?

If coilover rear, you will be very close to that 600 rate or lower. You will have to test it to find out the exact rate that works for you. Traditional spring location will require a higher rate for sure because of the motion ratio.

Spring rate is not everything. Fortune Auto / Broadway Static does a very good job valving their shocks to high spring rates.
I ran 16/24k spring rates on my E92 and they were very comfortable considering the spring rates. They handle very good and I got a lot of positive feedback from passengers saying they were very comfortable. Edit: when changing spring rates that much it would be a good idea to revalve the shocks. Why not just try them as they are and see if you like them? Last edited by Frode D; 10-17-2017 at 02:36 PM.. |
