That sounds so specific, singling out just 42.

using E9x BMW M3 est. manufacturing numbers, and rough math.

40k total produced / guessing 70% US bound? 28k US cars

28k / 5 year production run = 5600 ish per year.

5600 per year/ 12 months = 467 ish per month

roughly 3 month window of mess up x 467 = 1401 ish affected pool.

1401 (3 to 1 M4 vs. M3 build ratio) = 1051 (M4s) / 350 (M3s)?

42 recalled cars / 1401 cars in affected range = 2 - 3% chance you're one of the unlucky ones? Maybe I'm off somewhere, and let's say it's a 5% chance...?

It sounds like they know when the issues happened, and which VINs were affected, so hopefully the notices are done right. In any case, you'll want your dealer to check anyway.

Edit: Your educated guess seems fine.

I'm seriously wondering about the quality control in BMW, not that it affects my purchase. But missing bolts / plastics inside the car and now they caught cars not being lubed. Anyways.. can't wait to drive my M4 after work.

Ok, I'm starting to be worried now too. I found a missing screw from one corner of my trunk lid trim. Just noticed it was missing the other day. Also I noticed the gap between my connected drive camera module on the windshield is much larger than my friend's M3 that was built a month later...tsk tsk BMW!

My car has a loud "clunking" sound and sounds very unnatural, but read that JT was normal.

not sure if anyone else can chime in, but no clunking sound here on my end. I get those stone caught in brake shield scrap sounds every now and again, but that's mainly it. Have you had the dealer check it? What's JT?

As for this recall overall, reading it into more, it seems like they know the specific 42 since a part like this would be serial number stamped (not a lug nut), and tracked / attached to specific cars. Someone appararently received their notice to come in already.

Everyone, question on TIRES, anyone upsize width of their tires or try other tires yet? Cars are new, I know, but just curious what everyone is considering and why.

I go to the track and want to get Pilot Cup 2s since I don't daily drive my car any longer. Wonder if anyone here has had experience Pilot Cup 2 tires.

interesting on this as well, as I'll most likely like to go +10mm all around on the widths (for more aesthetics than anything)....I did that on my e90 m3 with the zcp wheels...really liked the stance and look on it, althought I already have spacers so wonder if I even need to this time around.....

A few members have done tires +20mm; 275 up front, 295 in the rear without any problems. They say it also improved rear hookup during full acceleration.

Yea, got mine a few days ago. I finally have a place to place my phone comfortably. Really confused as to why BMW stopped giving these with the car.

I am planning to get 275 front and 295 rear. I just wonder how it will look with stock wheels. Hopefully the tire is not too thick for the wheels. Wonder if thicker wheels are needed.

I see that on the GTS they went with 285 rear and had to make the wheel a bit thicker.

Hey all - check your car's vin here from the famous "42" recall or more accurately "34", since the others were held at dealerships. I don't know if you saw the list of 8, but all CA cars, which is interesting and telling where these cars might be.
