That sounds so specific, singling out just 42.

using E9x BMW M3 est. manufacturing numbers, and rough math.
40k total produced / guessing 70% US bound? 28k US cars 28k / 5 year production run = 5600 ish per year. 5600 per year/ 12 months = 467 ish per month roughly 3 month window of mess up x 467 = 1401 ish affected pool. 1401 (3 to 1 M4 vs. M3 build ratio) = 1051 (M4s) / 350 (M3s)? 42 recalled cars / 1401 cars in affected range = 2 - 3% chance you're one of the unlucky ones? Maybe I'm off somewhere, and let's say it's a 5% chance...? It sounds like they know when the issues happened, and which VINs were affected, so hopefully the notices are done right. In any case, you'll want your dealer to check anyway. |

I'm seriously wondering about the quality control in BMW, not that it affects my purchase. But missing bolts / plastics inside the car and now they caught cars not being lubed. Anyways.. can't wait to drive my M4 after work. |

As for this recall overall, reading it into more, it seems like they know the specific 42 since a part like this would be serial number stamped (not a lug nut), and tracked / attached to specific cars. Someone appararently received their notice to come in already. Everyone, question on TIRES, anyone upsize width of their tires or try other tires yet? Cars are new, I know, but just curious what everyone is considering and why. I go to the track and want to get Pilot Cup 2s since I don't daily drive my car any longer. Wonder if anyone here has had experience Pilot Cup 2 tires. |

A few members have done tires +20mm; 275 up front, 295 in the rear without any problems. They say it also improved rear hookup during full acceleration.

Yea, got mine a few days ago. I finally have a place to place my phone comfortably. Really confused as to why BMW stopped giving these with the car.

I see that on the GTS they went with 285 rear and had to make the wheel a bit thicker.

MFNATIK JamesGames Xtabi woobiee Kr3st BwoodBMW firedown31 Bmwguy11 Ecoce1 Hey all - check your car's vin here from the famous "42" recall or more accurately "34", since the others were held at dealerships. I don't know if you saw the list of 8, but all CA cars, which is interesting and telling where these cars might be. http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...eoverride=true |
