From what I hear, most people don?t use it. There will always be something new around the corner.

There's a theory that BMW holds back upgrades for each model year so that it's always releasing fresh product, which is nice for today's buyers, but then tomorrow you have an out-dated product (the theory goes). Further, there are competition packs, cs, and other versions or options that aren't available for early adopters.

Those that favor this theory believe that it's unique in scale and scope to BMW, and that other manufacturers release everything on day 1. Examples include the new M5 which debuts without led tail lights vs new porsche offerings that have all of the options available right away.

Yeah I?m no aficionado of BMW but as far as I can remember, BMW always came up with something every other year. I?m an Audi guy turned BMW and Audi?s were mostly untouched until the next generation. Some say Audi doesn?t update enough.

Either way, marketing has always found a way to make us feel like whatever we have isn?t good enough.

Could be... Lots of people talk about the marketing... Honestly I can't remember the last BMW marketing I saw so I guess I shouldn't be blocking so many web ads or something

well it was simpler before...you get a 2009 BMW M3, you know what you got, then you get a 2011 LCI M3 you know what you got, you can be happy you have the latest and greatest for a few years at least...but this constant upgrades every few months makes the shine and glory of the new one fade off quickly....

2017 got wireless charging
2018 got the LCI updates
2018 post July gets the touch screen in addition to that... I know I won't use it much but it certainly is more convenient to enter text using the virtual keyboard (tried it on my wife's X5 it's nice)
2018 post November gets a steel driveshaft... (that's a downgrade in this case)

but my point is, it is much nicer to have a standard.... not incremental updates every month which makes owners who ordered maybe a week earlier feel bad that they don't have all the nice bells and whistles

my 17 doesn’t have the rubber band on the inside of the trunk to hold the extra quart of oil, my 16 had it.

Is the touchscreen confirmed? July builds should be delivered by now and I haven't heard any rumblings of a touchscreen. I'd have figured someone would've posted by now in pics at least.

Yeah, there is a touchscreen.

I don't plan on using it... at all. I hate fingerprints.

yup, a few members here have confirmed they have a touch screen although they were M4 owners not M4 so I'm not so sure what BMW is doing for the M4 iDrive. Depends no their mood I guess

Next screw up they are cooking for us...future M4s will have X Drive!

The thought of having fingerprints all over my screen is more than my little heart can bear.

well my wife's 2017 X5 has this little plastic film protector that came with the car since she bought it, she never took it off and thus has 0 fingerprints

Ah well. I'm bummed about the touchscreen but I got in before the price increase so I'm happy with that trade off. I agree BMW does incremental upgrades way too frequently though and as vain as it is to admit it's annoying paying so much and only having the latest and greatest for a year [i]at best[/]. This M4 was a childhood goal and I'm glad I got it but I would definitely consider a C63S next go-round.

Dammit! Something else that needs xpel wrapping on it? First the outside of the car, then the light up M dougamerbobs on the seats that crack, and now the screen? What next the cracking MPE?

We live in the App Store world now. BMW has adopted this just like Teslas updates. Multiple versions of the same car. Just in time production and keep inventory low so new stuff can replace it. Constant innovation. They're heading electric so they need to start acting this way...

I usually remove all plastics but in the case of her iDrive screen, it isn't too obvious

Yes, but unlike the 2017-and-prior stalk it locks into place when you push it all the way up or down (same as most cars).
