OBD unlock and bootmod3

Everyone's doing it!

OBD unlock is in testing and we'll have more details to share soon. Short answer is anyone looking to go the OBD unlock route instead of bench flash will be able to do so at home or at any of our supporting dealer locations.

Unlocking over OBD does not perform a full readout like unlocking on bench does. Currently the only way to fully restore any given DME back to full stock software including flash counters is still via open/bench flash and for that reason we'll be offering both options still to end users depending on their needs.

There are a few more cool features on the horizon very soon but we felt this one needed to be announced first.

Once OBD flash is available, will there be any chance I can flash a M4 CS file to my car? I'm not talking about a custom tune that is similar to CS tune in behavior. I mean literally somehow replicating the exact CS tune and making it available for flash. I don't have much background on how this works in detail so the way I describe the process might be a little too naive so excuse my ignorance

They have the GTS tune as one of their off the shelf you can flash. I’m sure they could add the CS as well but doesn’t GTS make more power? I haven’t kept up with details on the CS.

Didn't know their GTS tune was the exact replica of M4 GTS tune. I thought they called it "GTS" because it has burbles similar to GTS and makes similar power figures. So what you are saying is if I were to drive a GTS and an M4 with BM3 GTS tune back to back, they would feel exactly the same? (Assuming they have same tires, brakes etc)

To answer your question, yes GTS makes more power but I track my car and I'm looking for a way to get the exact CS tune on my ZCP. CS tune would be sufficient for me but I might be willing to try GTS tune as well, as long as it is literally the same exact replica that BMW delivered in GTS.

When does this thread make front page of the news? It should be an interesting next few weeks comparing all the vendors with the OBD flash.

There is also a codding available for the GTS DCT, which is different from the GTS ECU tune. You'll be safe exeeding the GTS hp&tourque with stage I tune.

You missed my point. I have zero interest in exceeding GTS numbers or making 600+whp. I'm just wondering if it's possible to replicate the GTS or CS tune in my ZCP exactly the way BMW delivers in those cars.

What tables are missing and what does that change/effect in regards to tuning?

Having the GTS tune will not make your car exactly like a GTS because there are hardware differences between the engines and the car itself (water injection, race suspension, etc). However, the option to go over the GTS spec is possible via the other stages (I know you said you are not interested, just clarifying what the other person was trying to tell you).

There is also a transmission flash for the DCTers to make the car smoother especially with the extra power, I believe they were just trying to make you aware of that as well.

It is unlikely anyone has a direct copy of the CS yet but it's only around 10hp more than ZCP. If there is a company that can replicate that, it's Pro Tuning Freaks with their BM3 product. None of the other tuning companies offer any real customized tuning for their customers that have the desire for it. The other guys only sell prepackaged tunes.

What are the benefits of bench flashing over OBDII?

I've seen some random comments in different threads.

Think I'm going to hold out for whatever these guys have in store. Only open source and likely cheaper than the two other major competitors. I just hope they can come up with a more streamlined solution to map switching and exhaust valve control. Here's to all the JB4s that are about to be for sale in the classifieds section

Bench flashing requires the ECU to be removed and opened up. If you don't live by the tuner this requires mailing off the ECU. OBDII can be performed by the end customer. Still waiting for early reviews.

Apologize, maybe I wasn't clear.

What you stated is the cons of bench flashing since having to remove or mail it is a labor intensive process. The negatives are obvious.

My question was the positives gained from doing this.

It was stated that OBDII port flash can't read all the files. Also you can't revert back to completely stock using OBDII.

Wanted to know if this is true and what other advantages are there to bench flashing.

The GTS tune is free with bootmod3! So you have it as an additional map + OTS.
