F80 Leather is not M quality

I took delivery of a 2017 F80 in March (Jan build). I have the ZCP interior in Sakhir.

It seems that the leather quality has really gone downhill...anyone else notice this? This merino is nothing like my E90, or my F10, both of which showed no signs of wear in 3 years. I know there are many threads on the wear and sagging of the ZCP seat surface, but I am particularly interested in others perception of the leather quality itself. I looked at a convertible in the dealer showroom in oyster(?) and it felt much more supple. My Sahkir is really bad....like Camaro bad.....seriously.

That said, the leather on the doors and dash seem OK, but the seats....bad.

Maybe I need to treat them? Never needed to do this in my other M3 or M5.

No problem with black merino. Mine is a 2106 though.

2015 F80 with SO and no issue with wear. I wear jeans everyday, which I would think be worse than dress pants. My E46 did have left bolster wear from sliding in the seat, just saying.

Have a 2015 M4 that is almost 3 years old with black full leather. Interior looks as good as the day we bought it. No problems.

E90 M3 used Novillo, F10 used Nappa or Merino Leather. Kind of hard to compare.

I went to a 5 Series introduction at a local BMW dealer on Saturday. Surprised to see all five of the cars they had for us to drive, 530i and 540i, they were all either Sensatec or Dakota leather. My wife has Dakota leather in her 2011 335is Coupe and it's a much coarser, heavier grained leather than Merino. Definitely not the premium look and feel.

I don't have a problem with the Full Merino Leather in my M4, although the left bolster on the driver side is showing some signs of wear after only a year.

posted the same thing about quality of f82 leather vs my old e92 (7 years, looked brand new when i sold) and was shot down by this forum, all saying cannot compare, diffrent leather, f82 is softer, i should condition the leather, bla bla..

Doesnt change my opinion 1 bit....f82 leather is nowhere near my e92. (even it its meant to be more luxurious/softer/has to be taken care of)

im seeing significant wear at 15k km, on side bolsters, and i am very careful getting in and out, i dont wear jeans....my e92 hit 120k km without the same wear

That right....I had fox red novillo....agree it was different. My F10 had merino, soft and fine grained. My merino in the F80 is somewhat rough, but not textured like Dakota, and it is stiff.

My leather bolsters look mint. Carbonstructure FTW!!! I might be a cloth seat with leather trim guy from now on. After 10 years of leather seats I'm a convert.

The leather in recent M cars has always been more fragile. The Dakota leather may not feel great but it resists wear better. Not much you can do. I wish they used the same seat leather as Porsche which seems to wear a lot better but also feels premium.

I have a 16' SO interior. No issue or any signs of wear for the past year. My wife's F36 has Coral Red Dakota leather. Very durable and no signs of wear at all!

My experience with BMW leather since 1999 (and with leather in general), has been the higher the quality of leather, the more susceptible it is to wear. The benefit is increased suppleness and potentially a nice patina.

The leather in my E39 M5 has required the most maintenance but is my favorite. The Z4M coupe leather is clearly more resilient but less supple, as is my impression with the leather in my F80.

Almost 12k miles on my car with full SO interior. Leather still looks great! I don't often wear jeans, maybe once a week, the rest of the time its gym shorts or dress pants. I also use setting 2 on the seat as my "get in/get out" setting so the seat is back and I don't rub on the bolsters.

So wait. Your seats are already showing signs of wear after only 3 months of ownership? Mine is 6 months old and seems to be holding up pretty well. It's a daily driver and no wear at all.

2015 full SS leather, mine still looks great.

Of course, I condition it and clean it every so often.

That is quite accurate.

In my experience, Nappa is the best OEM leather in terms of suppleness, wear resistance, and best overall appearance over time (except in the steering wheel), Merino is second and far last is Novillo.

My 2016 silverstone seats look great. Granted I don't own a pair of jeans but no signs of wear. Best thing I did was code my car and have the drivers seat move back when I get out and forward when the door closes. No bolster wear whatsoever.

I would suggest that everyone have this coded. It really keeps the drivers seat looking brand new.

I have a full black leather interior on my 2017 ZCP and it looks as perfect as the day I picked it up. The kids are in it all the time. It doesn't get abused but it is used.
