Sorry I have a huge problem seriously considering any diesel as a performance car. Regardless Alpina usually does a good job offering alternatives to M's but no thanks.

Already being discussed in other thread.

1. D3 uses launch control.
2. No fuel in D3 vs half tank in M3.
3. M3 in efficient engine response not sport +
4. Sutcliffe has got it in for the new M3!

M3 looked twitchy from his steering inputs. D3 was more stable which explains why D3 was just a hair quicker.

Interesting and Surprising test results. Not surprised he didn't like the M3. He hasn't liked it from the jump. I personally want the noise, unrefined nature at the limit and lack of butter soft virgin calf hide seats. I think most M3/M4 shoppers wouldn't be shopping for an Alpina D3. Just my .02.

These results aside, Sutcliffe is just a putz. He is out to create sensational results, instead of real reporting. Not y kind of guy at all.

2. Launch control used on Alpina but not the M3- after he stated ' they just turned off DSC and mashed the gas' hmmmm
3. M3 set to Efficient engine response not Sport +......why is that?

Could he have disadvantaged the M3 anymore to get the result he wanted? Very poor Sutcliffe.
Haha! Nice spot!

Sutcliffe definitely does not like or does not want to admit he likes the F8X. He seems to focus on how much he dislikes the engine sound above all else in his reviews of the car.

From this review, it seems that Sutcliffe prefers the nice, quiet, civilised, economical, luxurious Alpina to the M3 so why again did he prefer the C63 AMG in his last video....oh, that's right, the engine sounds better...

Steve Sutcliffe isn't much of a fan of the new M3/M4.. He is the only reviewer I have seen complain about the noise. Autocar have been hating on the M3/M4 since release I dont know why. Also Jeremy Clarkson has said he would like an M4 for his birthday Lol.

Both fantastic cars... but if I had to pick it would be the M3 hands down.

Half a tank of gas in the M3, empty in the D3. LC used on D3, off on M3... Noise was way nicer on M3...

Can we post this again?

Or another comparison between another modified car and an oem car with a warranty?

minus 1M

An interesting part of the video is the use of the M diff in the M3 vs the normal(Drexler?) lsd in the D3.

If the M3/4 or even 1M had a normal LSD(Drexler ect) the cars wouldn't be so abrupt, on/off.

Anyway. German carmag Sportauto(the famous one) also tested an AC Schnitzer 335d X Drive with 360BHP and 690Nm.
It did Hockenheim Short course in 1:16.9
The F80 M3 6MT in the same mag(vs the beautiful E30 M3 DTM) did it in 1:13.1 as many of you already know.

So I don't think Steve's D3 can stand any chance vs an F80 M3 @ Hockenheim

Nontheless interesting video.

Cheers

The Alpina is the brandname, with warranty and all. It's a 'separate' brand.
Technically it is modified, but so is the M3 vs 335i

But the D3 is a car on its own.

345BHP vs 431BHP. D3 weighing >100kgs more. Come on what do you really think

Cheers

That's just one person's opinion

I'd take an F8x over any other 3 series that's available new

And the D3 is nice but quiet

You can make any car seem more jerky if your inputs are sudden...that's what this fatty was doing here.

The way he drives on the D3 is really better when he tries to compare the lap time. With the M3 he is sliding everywhere but everybody knows that its beautiful to see but its not efficient on the stop watch. This guy is not objective.
Why doesn't he try to compare those cars more than 0-100mph? I would like to see the result with the 0-200 km/h or 0-1000 meters.
This test sucks!
