Definitive answer about touch screen for 2018 M3 (USA)?

Im trying to figure out if my M3 will come with a touch screen or not.

It is a US 2018 F80 M3. The VIR at the time was showing that it started production on June 28.
Some posts suggest that the car must be a July production in order to get this option.

And I read the BMW bulletin that says this:
Quote:
2018 BMW M3 Sedan.
Changes to the BMW M3 are effective July 2017 production.

Standard Equipment now includes:
  • LED Headlights (5A2) replace Xenon adaptive headlights (522+524), which are no longer offered.
  • The illuminated matte-chrome M badge on the seat has been redesigned to high-gloss black, and includes the M3 model name.
  • iDrive 6.0 with Touch Screen Technology is standard.

Lines and Package changes:
Competition Package (ZCP)
New 20-inch wheel (2CQ) M Forged Black Star-Spoke Wheels Style 666 M with Mixed Performance Tires now available.

BMW M3 Sedan Pricing (plus $995 D&H):

BMW M3 Sedan $65,500

So, will I get a touch screen or not, and if not?

That is the definitive answer. Production month is when car is completed, not when production started.

So does the fact that standard lights are supposed to be the normal LEDs in non Exec packages cars (5A2) however 18 M3s are coming with the adaptive LEDs standard (552). So... maybe the bulletin is wrong every once and a while.

My wife has a touch screen in her MY17 X5, never once did I think of using it, maybe I forgot that it's even a touch screen because of how used to using the iDrive controller on my M4 . But yes it's too far for me to use it comfortably. The only good use I see to the touch screen is when you're parked and want to enter an address into the NAV it's easier typing on the touch screen but that's about the only usage case I see viable

Even then, the voice recognition is so good that u can naturally speak the address

The nav screen is too far away to make a touch screen comfortable. I wouldn't want all those fingerprints on my screen either way.

Not uncommon.

If the parts run out, they use what's available.

Dates for part changes seem to never be error free.

For example, depending on where one looks, you can find a 3 month variance in the change in F3x brake lines to match the F8x brake lines, which were slightly rerouted to avoid the F8x CFBR.

So does the new touchscreen come up with a virtual keyboard when you need to type something? Can anyone post a picture of what this looks like?

my wife has a 2017 X5 5.0 which has the touch screen....when you are on a screen that has typing for example the nav screen... you see the round keyboard which is used for entering letters via the iDrive controller...

the moment you move your finger closer to the screen, it changes to a horizontal virtual keyboard just like you would have on a tablet or phone...very easy to type addresses that way

I would go nuts if I had a bunch of fingerprints on my screen.

I took delivery of my car today, and yes, it does have a touchscreen display.

I tested a 2018 M3's touchscreen and it didn't seem to automatically switch from round keyboard to horizontal keyboard as your finger approaches the screen. You have to manually tap on the keyboard icon to pull it up. Bummer.

While the touchscreen was nice I don't see myself using it. Voice control seems so much easier. I could see my wife having an easier time getting around with the touchscreen as a passenger than the iDrive control knob.

Probably, if it's an M3. My M3 was manufactured in July 2017 and has a touch screen.
